There are no winners in a trade war. True. Look at history. So sorry about this decision by Trump. This is a very clear speech. May the United States powers that be reconsider this current tariff and fentanyl issues. As an American citizen I wish to work with Canadians and your government. Generations of common goals and friendship need to be upheld. My wish is for reconciliation.

First economic war then a military invasion. I believe the Americans are setting the stag for a ground invasion of Canada using the escalating trade war as a pretext for a real war. I think everyone needs to consider the possibility that Trump may in fact be an agent of Russia with a single mission to bring down the USA and her allies.

You know I've got a better idea - lift that 100% tariff against Chinese EV. That will not only prevent a price hike of consumer goods in Canada, but also piss Trump off, deeply.

The moment Pres. Trump threatened Canada with the tariff trade war months ago, I was shocked. How come your closest ally, a friend, your closest neighbor, shared the longest border in the world, fought side by side in ww1, ww2, middleast conflicts etc., and now the relationship starts to deteriorate because of one man's arrogance.

Canada has taken advantage of the US for far too long; the US needs jobs; manufacturing in the US will bring jobs back; forcing Canada to trade fairly will bring manufacturing back to the US. If Trudeau wants a trade war, he will lose. We can get those raw materials from other sources.

But look around your house, I bet most of it says - Made In China. Every Democrat was making the point that only the host country pays for the tariffs that it puts on items. Why is Canada upset? If we have to pay the tariffs. And then canada's answer is to what make their own people pay tariffs, that doesn't make any sense. There market is so small that even if they thought they were doing a trade war, their economy will go bottom up in no time.

In Canada, there is a lot of divisiveness between our conservative and liberal political parties. But what is incredible is how much support Trudeau holds in this trade war conflict . While his reign is nearly over, nationally all political parties have come together (in majority numbers) for a unified approach. Trump has single-handedly ostracized the United States from the rest of the world.

Can we have the Canadian President instead of ours? Both Canada and Mexico responds to the requests and demonstrate they are trying to be our allies and for some reason we still proceed into a trade war. I think there's an aspect of the tariffs where it's a tax that's not called a tax, where there will be reductions in taxes for the wealthy and then these tariffs are added taxes for the general population.

It's no trade war, it's protectionnism. Something you should have done way before in your 10-year tenure. Also, he's not allying Putin, he's negociating on behalf of world peace. You don't get what you want by insulting people, so thinking Putin will cease fire and retreat if you call him names clearly isn't the solution. It hasn't worked for three years, why would that change now? Also, stop giving away our money to Zelenskyy. Sit this one out, Justin, we've had enough. Respectfully. The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. It us telling everyone else that we can no longer be relied upon because we are weak. \n\nI didnt' even vote Trump the first two times he ran. But things have now gotten so bad that I was forced into voting for him this time. Why? Because he's a bull in a china shop. I expect him to tear every damn thing apart he can within our government. Trump is in the process of destablizing the greatest trade relationships in world history, while he angers at least half of his own citizens. This all being done while turning on a country that was our allie until January of 2025. Now he has cut off aid to Ukraine, setting the stage for their defeat. Trump now carries responsibility for the possibllty Ukraine will lose the war. Trump's legacy in history will be of the greatest looser and worst president in the history of the United States of America.

Europe has just announced an 800 billion Euro defence plan; I bet they’d be very interested in Canada’s critical minerals. Canadians will not forget this; this has damaged our relationship with the U.S. and it may never recover. We cannot forget that Americans voted this man back into power knowing who and what he is; they somehow believed that he was magically going to lower the cost of eggs, end a war and save the economy. Canadians will never trust that Americans won’t again elect someone so stupid and pathetically unfit to lead their country; we have to start cutting the trade ties now so that we will never be this vulnerable again. I do agree with Dumpty that we need to pull our weight militarily, so we need to invest in our security and we also need to align ourselves with Europe since Dumpty is clearly aligning the U.S. with Russia.

Prime Minister Trudeau is boldly hitting the nails on the head, and I admire his boldness and honesty as I've always admired Canada and its peoples. Trump is in the back pocket of the Russian dictator. His actions prove it to my satisfaction. Canada has been a staunch friend of the US, a real partner not just for economic benefits for both countries but for a democratic way of life. Canada is a strong democracy whose people are known for their open hearts and minds. I pray that this idiotic trade war started by a man who is subservient to Putin will come to an end. We are angry - with those people who ignorantly voted for Trump and those people who chose not to vote. Not the people who chose to vote democratically to remain a democratic country. We are clear that his real agenda is to use this trade war to attempt to coerce us into becoming the 51st state. For MANY reasons, we will not EVER become part of Trump’s America. We will collectively fight in any way possible, even though we know it will be tough, to prevent it. We also know that there is a bigger picture in that it’s clear that Trump is aligned with Putin in the push to destroy democracy globally in favour of an authoritarian world order that benefits only the ultra rich. Canada, the Ukraine, Greenland and Panama are stepping stones to that end goal.

To my mind, Trump would have started the trade war with Canada no matter what measures Canada undertakes. My guess is the underlying motive behind the whole theatre is to somehow pressurize Canada into complete submission. Remember his comments about Canada should become the 51st state? I presume that in reality his eyes are set on Canada‘s vast resources and the potential north-west passage which would be a fantastic gift to his master Putin.

I don't like Trudeau, but this speech was great. Intelligent when he needed to be, simple when addressing Trump. A strong start to this trade war which as he said, we don't want. I hope along with Ford we hit America where it hurts. Maybe when their groceries skyrocket in price and their trucks are gone they'll really see where their votes went.\n\nI personally can attest I'm no longer buying DOOM: The Dark Ages, or games on Steam for that matter. Justin Trudeau is a parasite...he caused 86% food inflation, causing millions of Canadians to have to rely on food banks, while Trudeau spent $81k of Canadian taxpayers dollars on groceries for himself this year alone...Trudeau underfunded Canada in relation to NATO, underfunded Canada in relation to NORAD, ticked off Trump by being rude to him in the past so that now Trump launches an economic trade war against Canada cause he just wants to hurt Canada to hurt Trudeau. I'm a proud Canadian, and I'm very proud of our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. We did not want this trade war, but we fully support it. We have been attacked and blindsided by our best ally and friend. Things will never be the same between us! Our former relationship is over. Personally, we have canceled a 3 week road trip to Florida, we will not buy american products in our grocery stores or pharmacies. You have made a big mistake, America.
