If I really want to make sense of all this non sense, in this 'alternative truth world', I will say that, in fact, Trump is surprisingly the best advocate for sustainable development! Because, if the tariffs have the expected consequences, trade between both your countries will decrease, meaning less trucks on the roads, meaning less fossiles fuels, less production, less consumption, meaning less emissions of CO2. Is it what Trump really wants?

Tariffs make no sense!! Which leads me to believe trump is tanking the stock market on purpose so that the rich can buy the dip!! That or trump just wants to prove everyone wrong and proof that his tariff theory will work for US!! What a ?

The question that needs to be asked is what’s Trump’s moneymaking angle on imposing tariffs. Trump only does stuff where he personally can make money. Somebody or some group or entity is paying him somehow to impose tariffs on America’s main trading partner and ally. That’s the only way this makes any sense.

I'm a canadian who usually agrees with Trump but in this case I feel like this makes no sense. Not sure exactly why Trump is doing all of this but deteriorating relations between us and impacting our economies in such a way makes no sense to me. The stock market is plummeting, jobs on both sides are at risk, prices on both sides of the border will go up. Btw my job won't be affected by these tariffs so i'm not speaking out of anger or fear for my job.

Trump's doctrine; Tariffs for allies, sanctions relief for dictatorships. Make it make sense.

We voted to be more independent from other countries. We voted to make America a producer again. \nIf Canada and everyone else wants to be butt hurt about it then so be it. This is all non sense none of the nation's leaders make sense. The tariffs will be paid by the consumers in all the countries. So basically yall raised the prices of all goods in the US, Canada, Mexico & China and the residents will pay or go without products they need & rely on. ?

I'm a Canadian and I had no clue that we had this issue... Most of our media is government funded and so they don't report wrong doings of the administration like they should, plus lots of censoring so this is the first im hearing of it. Crazy I had to hear from an American what's really happening at the Canadian border. Trumps tariff threats due to our lax boarder makes sense now

I expect Trump to implement tariffs on the EU, after the election in Germany. If he did it before, the German voters might be reminded of how much sense it makes to be in the EU, which is strong enough to stand up to the US and its bully in chief. People might be less prone to vote for the party that wants to leave the trading block (AfD).

DW comes from Germany, so don't expect fair reporting. However, this is so simple to understand. We buy from them much more than they buy from us. What it means, is that they can't tariff us as much as we can tariff them. The ´war´is lost before it began. They simply can't win it. Trump doesn't accept calls from Canada ofc because this is not about border security nor the 1% fentanyl going into the US. It is about being hawkish and potentially annexation of Canada in the far future. \nThese tariffs make way more sense against Mexico, considering the amount of border issues and fentanyl infiltrating in the US, but tariffs against Canada is just BS.

Millionaires and billionaires and the politicians they’ve bought have spent the last 50 years fighting to destroy wages, unions, educational system, acces to healthcare and fought to avoid taxes for themselves leaving ordinary Americans with the bill. Trump is continuing this but more openly and loudly than ever before for all to see. What we in the rest of the western world see as basic rights and essential services is in America seen as “communism” \n\nThe consequences of this is that Americans are suffering and causing a huge demand for drugs both prescription and illegal drugs.\n\nTariffing Mexico and Canada makes no f sense when the peoblem is America and Americans. For many years USA and Mexico have worked together to combat drugs and cartels, there is no need to put tariffs on them.\n\nDrugs will continue to enter USA as long as there is a demand for it, including Musk and Trump jr. The only ones who can fix this is America itself.

It makes sense to replace income tax with import tariffs. What does not make sense is to impose tariffs withoit lowering income tax.

Maybe I shouldn't like this but I do. Firstly, Canada has the luxury of not really needing to protect itself, they get to spend 3% what the US does on their military so they can focus on other things, like letting immigrants into the Country to price out the native Canadians and jailing people for misusing pronouns. Also, I want to see the US become slightly more isolationist, I'll happily pay more for US products. A tariff is paid buy the businesses who attempt to pass that cost down to the consumer. We need tariffs high enough that making things in the US makes more sense to these businesses.

Trump and the MAGA morons should look up the meaning of trade in a dictionary. There is a give and take, there’s buying and selling, that meets the needs of both parties. Trade tariffs is not how anyone with common sense wants to deal with any and every minute dispute like a senseless toddler. Both sides get hurt. Even the tariffs on Russia hurt other countries that imposed them too and that was a calculated move because the war calls for extreme measures.\nWhat the Trump sycophants that probably can’t read need to know is that Colombia accepted hundreds of these flights in the last few years. The only reason they pushed back now is on human indignity. This is the first they received a flight with their civilians cuffed up like animals. The Colombian president said that is not how you treat humans, at least not my people, send them back in a civilised way where they are not dehumanised and we’ll take them. He even sent his own planes later and took them back.\nA sane leader would order his team to review the process and advise them of appropriate measures going forward. An insane, thin skinned snowflake throws tantrums in their diapers and these Trump tariffs are precisely that. Sure, this will reduce the cost of living for the idiots that voted for him ??‍♂️

I'm raising prices by 25% on OIL, COFFEE and PETROL which will raise prices for the very voters i promised on day 1 to lower their living costs.\nSomeone please make sense of these opposing contradictions please. AHHHH, now it all makes sense, if you are LOYAL to TRump and his agenda of hate you may avoid paying the tariffs. I mean…adding Canada, as well? Seriously…that alone indicates the tariff terror is a power play, if not simply, a projection of victim mentality that seems to empower many to make rash, unproductive decisions - under the guise of ‘protection’ of the people or fostering of fear simply, to imply/offer a ‘fix’ toward creation of a false sense of security being peddled possible, for reasons or purposes - which may or may not be agreed to - if we, the people, as a whole, had any idea of…transparency is not only ‘a thing’, it’s a necessity.

It won't stop with the illegals. A mass round up and deportation is just phase 1 of Trumps plan. He will go after legal immigrants in phase 2. What maga morons dont understand is that illegals make up a pretty big part of the labor force in America. Mass deportation and the 60% tariff of anything from China (which is 90% of all goods sold in America) and 20% on everything ( food, oil, etc) will crash the economy and send us into a recession. You can't put high tariffs, which the end consumer (us) will end up paying and make things cheaper. It's like all common sense went out the window.
