Thank you emphasizing the role of municipalities in this. Unlike other jurisdictions, in Canada municipalities are responsible for all transport infrastructure and utility infrastructure with the exception of major provincial highways, airports, and electricity and gas distribution systems. Meanwhile, Canadian municipalities can only levy property taxes and no income or sales taxes. Thus, Canadian municipalities governments are very attached to property owners, leading to the political conditions that make housing harder to build and new housing more expensive. The vast majority of the policies restricting housing supply and increasing costs of new housing, like development charges on new homes to fund infrastructure instead of taxing existing property owners, onerous and restrictive zoning regulations, and slow and expensive permitting processes all come from the cities. Honestly, for many city politicians it is to their advantage to make the crisis worse. Why wouldn’t a city councillor vote to raise development charges on building new homes instead of raising property taxes on existing homes to pay for stuff like replacing life expired sewer and road and subway infrastructure!? His constituents aren’t going to care about the costs of new homes, which affect people moving to the city or younger generations, which are either not yet residents of the city or too young to vote.

I heard a person on the Jake Tapper, C NN, this afternoon say all the companies are coming to the USA not Canada, he didn't mention that they come because they don't have to pay a lot of taxes. CNN needs to realize its role in this, as everyone knew what Trump would do, but you didn't care enough about the black vote to listen to what they wanted. Make no mistake. The black voters held their nose and voted for Obama a second term, but when he did nothing but insult us, we stayed home on Hillary and we got Trump. The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. This has nothing to do with Canada or the Canadian people. This is a pure transactional move because that is how Trump sees things. If this were just about Trump then it would be easy to ignore. But of the 244m eligible US voters, 77m voted for Trump to appease Putin and sell out their friends; 88m couldn't be bothered to vote at all. My hope is people in my country, the USA, will finally begin to listen carefully, and think about the ramifications of voting Trump into office again. Sadly, populist demagogues attract attention by suggesting easy answers to very complex problems. Or to put it more simply, by repeatedly lying.

It only took Trump less than a month to destroy our coward of a government!! THE ONLY thing Trump so called promised was to lower cost/eggs smh lol..so stupid ppl voted for him!! Now, most of them are crying!!! Stupidity of them to really think this man cared lol lol...Trump is/ will be running this country just like a BUSINESS!! Just like Putin does Russia. In his first election Putin tried to help Trump win, but it didn't go as planned . Now, Musk helped him win this election by way of tech support. So, now Trump owes Musk AND still owes Putin. Trump is paying off his debts by canceling America, OUT!!

This must be Trump's brilliant plan to get everyone to self-deport to a country that has political leaders that actually care about their citizens... Trump will later want credit for bankrupting America.. the biggest bankruptcy in history...never one bigger... And for all this Trump will want to have his profile added to Mt Rushmore... and no doubt hand himself a Medal of Honor... I'm surprised he hasn't given himself a Purple Heart, for taking a shot to an ear. Who voted for this demented man anyway?

Good speech. Now let’s also look at what has gone on last 9 years in Canada. Mr. Trudeau It was dumb to divide the provinces. It was dumb for you to shut down every project that Alberta had to work with other provinces and trade with other parts of the world. It was dumb for you to continually suck up to Quebec while ignoring the rest of the country. The corruption we know of that your party created such as We Charity and Arrivecan app is just the tip of the iceberg of billions of dollars you have robbed from Canadian taxpayers that could have fixed health care and provided much needed tax relief to all Canadians. While you are speaking about dumb I pray that Canadians realize and understand what the Liberal and NDP parties have done to our country the last 9 years and vote your party out. Canadians need to stop being dumb with who we have in power. We cannot keep going like this.

Reading as much as I could of the comments below, it is with great respect that we as human can still care for one another even when we are from different countries, continents, backgrounds an so one. Evil will always try to do it's thing and we must come together to abolish it. Being from different countries in this situation is not much we can do. Maybe stop importing from America, at least till this administration is gone in 4 years. The way it's going , America will lose a lot of it's allies and unless tyranny and dictatorship follows, we will vote the so called politicians out of office and claim our rights to a better way of life. Because now, America suffers and other countries will follow. And it is just the beginning. Learn how to become stronger and don't vote for convicted felon that is doing Russia's bid. Not sure how the followers can say with a straight face that what Trump is doing is for the betterment of our country . God bless us all.

Trumps small, petty ego battles are very costly to the average American and to lives around the world. Trump does not care. He is incapable of empathy. His ego battle and extortion racket with Zelenskyy is costing lives. Trump doesn't care. A hundred thousand extra lives were lost during Covid in America because of Trumps, ignorance, lies and disinformation. Trump didn't care. Lives were lost in Haiti because of Trumps hurricane response incompetence. Trump could have cared less. Trump sold out the Kurds in Syria. Thousands of lives were lost. Trump didn't care. He's a sick man and American voted him in. Now we have to live with it. Here in America, there is going to be a step too far. For half of America, Trump is way passed that. Dictators only respond to strength. Thank you Canada for making a strong and firm stand.
