I’ll say first that I’m a Canadian…\n\nTrudeau and his government has been in power almost 10years and in that time Canada has gotten progressively worse—the drug crisis; immigration; inflation etc etc. I find it shameful that it took a foreign leader (Trump) to ignite changes within my country. Are the tariffs fair to Canada? Canadians and other nations subject to tariffs, please understand that the *only* reason Trump used fentanyl as a pretext for tariffs is to bypass Congress, because the president can only put tariffs without Congress in matters of national security. Warren Buffet recently said that if all US corporations paid taxed like his companies do, We'd have no need for income taxes. Trump is talking out of his ass. We are responsible for less than 1% of fentanyl. We pay more money to states than states pays to us. We helped with 911, their wars and their California fires. We invested Canadian money, & time & lost Canadian lives. When is USA paying us back ???? . \n\nTrump has sold USA to Russia. I'm usually reasonable enough to realize that while I may disagree with many policy decisions, there's usually a relatively coherent line of thought to back said actions up. The problem here is that there’s no clear logic behind using tariffs as a tool to curb fentanyl trafficking or immigration. I'm not going to speak on the issue of immigration at the Canadian border because there simply is none. Yes, there are illegals from Canada, but almost 100% of them are from overstaying visas rather than crossing the border unlawfully. So let's talk about fentanyl. \n\nMost fentanyl in the US originates from China, often in precursor form, and is then processed in Mexico before being smuggled into the states. But it's typically trafficked in small, high potency quantities, often hidden in legitimate shipments or through mail, and only on very rare occasions is it being brought in by individuals crossing the border. It has _never_ been documented to have shipped in as part of large scale commercial imports, so a 25% tariff on legal trade with Canada and Mexico doesn’t directly target the black market supply chain at all.\n\nIf we take Trump’s reasoning at face value, the argument seems to be that he wants to exert economic pressure on Mexico and Canada as a means of having them crack down harder on drug trafficking networks. But the issue is that fentanyl simply isn’t coming in through mass import channels, so all this looks like is a punitive measure without a clear mechanism to actually achieve its stated goal. And the implications? Drastically higher costs for consumers in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Funny how a lot of Canadians complained about Trudeau, the wokeness etc. Albeit reasonably so, Practically praising Trump, until these idiotic tariffs. Now we have Canada united and in a fighting patriotic mood against Trump. UK probably gonna go the same way thanks to Vance. A lesson in hubris.

I live near the Canadian border,and stand with Canada on the reciprocal tariff increases. This was not necessary,but Trump is always looking for a fight. It's too bad that Trudeau's Government did so little about fentanyl, also about our poorly-controlled border and destructive immigration non-policies for so long. Hence, driving Trump's scorched-earth policy (The Tariffs). That said, it blows me away that Trump was so vociferous about the Lawfare that was lined up against him in 2023-24, but he doesn't see that excess use of the power of the State is wrong and immoral in this Canadian and Mexican case. Trump only knows the right of might. Threats, coercion, bullying. He doesn't otherwise distinguish between right and wrong; only about what is good for him and his ego. The Tariffs will drive very bad business outcomes in the US. Including, inflation, and lost jobs. The Stock Markets are already tanking. Canada must receive its spanking, and Donald will have to save face.
