You my friend are misleading about why houses are not built. Councils do not care about the value of homes. They care about the living standards. Why should we want to be crammed in ever more denser areas. People do not need to come to Canada they need to stay home and fix their country of origin.

There is no better place in this planet to be brutal honest and very unfortunate. I have very wealthy cousins who moved to the US for work, and I'm trying to talk them into moving back to Canada, but because of health issues, they prefer to stay in the US because of the availability to them due to their financial status. I understand that, but I still prefer our universal system.

Fake marriage visa's that get divorced the week after they land, pretending to be students at colleges just so they can fast track visas, sponsoring relatives to be stay at home nurses when there was a shortage of health care professionals during covid.... I was born and raised in Canada and in my 60’s now. I can’t afford to live here anymore, healthcare has declined, personal safety, fuel costs, insurance etc. most of all our politics are a mess on all three major parties. The Liberals are a royal mess and inflation went through the roof. They’re just running around like the 3 blind mice making fools of themselves. The Conservatives are involving themselves in a right wing romance with fascist trumpianism and think poutine is an ok guy. The hate speech is unreal. We used to be a real chill country. I have young 20 somethings telling me they think Communism is a great idea and they would rather fight for poutine if a war breaks out. Well it’s their future not mine. The AI, bots and trolls on the internet are telling them what they want to hear in order to stir up hate and entitlement. The NDP (New Democratic Party) is neither here nor there, they’re kind of always the minority and swing both the other two parties to divide the vote and gain some form of temporary power. \nI’d like to see a politician that has the balls to stand up to the dictators of this world that shit disturb in every continent because they are such little insecure bastards that they think they can conquer it. I’ve got news for them. Every single dictator in history has failed… miserably and often brutally. We need the kind of leadership in our Country that can produce good governance. Our GDP is just under $60K. The dictators out there are rubbing their greedy little hands, for if there is ever a 3rd world war, Canada will be the prize. We are loaded with resources. Land mass, water, minerals, oil and gas, technology, geographic strategic stronghold etc. Don’t let it slip into the hands of fascists, communists, dictators or totalitarians they always make it worse so that it takes a lifetime to recover. I’ve spent 40 yrs in the workforce, and listened to countless people from every continent who told me the truth about why they left their homeland. People who survived WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam War, communist China, expansionism of the USSR, the caste system and political persecution in India and Bangladesh. Political unrest in Argentina and Chile. I have personally witnessed systemic racism in the USA and Canada. \nI don’t have anything tying me down to stay here so I will be moving on. I think I’ll just become a nomad tourist for a while.

The Liberal government has opened the flood gates of immigration as a means to win successive elections by attrition. Too many Immigrants are coming and they are told that the Liberal party is welcoming them; not Canada. Problem is that this strategy is back-firing because to support the influx the government needs the private sector to support these massive numbers in housing, hiring, infrastructure etc. That is not happening becase the same Liberals are driving government debt through the roof and printing money causing runaway inflation; impacting everyone. As a result, the immigrants don’t want to stay and the citizens want the Liberals to go with them.

Every would-be student who thinks Canada is a better country to live better think 500 times, not just twice. In 2024, if you moved to Canada, you will not only be living in poverty for decades. Stay away. 20, 30 years ago I would have said the opposite but not anymore. You will be met with the worst shock of your life that you won't be able to recover from unless you go home to your country of origin or consider other countries to study in or move to.

Any Canadian with money, skills, education or business ideas would be better off leaving because Canada punishes success. People without these things act like everyone should stay in Canada and suffer instead of pursuing better opportunities.

I was misdiagnosed for year and could have died when I went to the emergency room. I needed surgery and was told my wait would be two years. Then, when I went to Serbia to have life-saving surgery, the government would not refund the cost, because they decided it was not an emergency—I “could have survived with a catheter”. The doctors in Canada are kind and lovely people, but they are just overworked. The system is completely broken. I’ve been telling all my European friends who are thinking of immigrating to Canada to stay far away. Is there a single government service in Canada that is functioning well?

The wages of the people have not increased much, but the prices have skyrocketed. The harsh government has imposed heavy taxes on the people. The middle class cannot afford to pay the taxes alone, mortgages, car loans, water, electricity and gas bills. I'm a canadian in my late 20s and now I can't even afford a home. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against all the people that have came here, but there has been too many in too short of a time period. The government should've propped up the infrastructure to accommodate these immigrants before initiating this plan of overimmigration. Sure you are giving us a first time home buyer credit and only allowing individuals with a PR to purchase a home, but there is still an underlying issue of how born and raised citizens are now struggling. I cannot imagine how much worse it is for those who are coming here for an education. Not to include the lack of jobs, it is a tough job market out there as well, I may have to move to the US to have a professional career, which is not ideal because I want to stay in Canada.

Immigration should never be encouraged at the cost of the existing residents and that is what has happened to this country. Growth should never be at the cost of destruction ofo somethign else. I just visited and too many homeless people it made the visit unbearable. It was a snow storm and saw people laying in the snow. Very sad. Every hotel was full and over priced I had to stay in an apartment complex converted into a hotel. $1000 Canadian dollars for a 2 room for a night was excessive. Canada needs to do better

I do not see a problem having international students. They shall have their own money for tuition, accommodation and food. Our taxes shall not subsidize foreign students. Also as soon they have finished their schools they shall go back to their countries. And if they want to immigrate they shall stay in general line for all applicants. Why Canada promises PRs for foreign students and their families? It may be one inexperienced graduator in family and the rest a bunch of low skilled workers immediately asking for welfare to survive. I do not see any benefits for Canada.

Canadian born citizen here. I am almost done my degree. Once I'm done well I have been saving up for tuition well before starting university so I will pay that in cash and then head out to perhaps the states. I get it that they have the same issues as us but there is definitely room for improvement. You can't progress in Canada like you can in America. The most you will make in Canada is what you are paid for a few years of experience in America. Have several years of experience? You will make double. It's sad to see what it has become but if no decisions are made on the federal level most will have no choice but to go somewhere else.\n\nEdit: I also have family in America that will allow me to stay with them until I get settled as well. It's a no brainer. But probably will be here for a couple of years to save some cash

This lack of access to health care is a new thing. I agree with your assessment. It now seems lonelier in Toronto. \n\nCanada used to be different because anyone with a good job could afford at least a condo, but life became unaffordable not just for immigrants, but for everyone unless you are in your 50s-60s and own a home. \n\nI have friends working double jobs supporting family back home in other countries, but for some of them the family back home sound like they are doing better than them and own a home. It’s like they are sacrificing their life to be in poverty or full of hardships and their families get to go out for dinners and drinks with friends. Not them. Not true for everyone, but for some yes and I worry about their own retirement because retirement in Canada without lots of savings means you might be homeless or forced to live with family even if it’s not your preference. \n\n without investments and savings, it will be hard to beat inflation. Getting into debt and getting bad credit can mean not getting an apartment. \n\nThe birth rate is going down because it is expensive to have kids and income isn’t enough to match with living costs. Getting help from government is really not something everyone gets access too. One person might get housing support, 10 others may get nothing. Different governments offer different things. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. It’s the time with the best deals saving almost half. For instance, I have 50 gigs for $25 for two years from a large provider. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. This is because prices keep rising. The system protects the very rich, but will also drain the middle class often within 1-2 generations. Do not link your business to your personal finance, or creditors can take your home. Some not knowing this lose everything and rich people know better. \n\nPeople live until they are very old, so inheritance is pretty much meaningless to rely on, so no matter what your parents have you must hustle in life. \n\nI do think Canada can become what we want over time. Citizens need to fight the trend of great community spaces, restaurants and bars going out of business and dumb corporations move in with bad boring restaurants. Like a McDonald’s where maybe a popular cultural hang out was. \n\nPart of the problem is a lack of mixed income housing areas, so it’s hard to stay living where you grew up. Artists and musicians help make a city great, but many cannot afford to live here.\n\nFamilies and communities staying together means more support for those with young kids and older relatives when they need help. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. My aunt lives in canada and they say they are discusted. Amongst all the things you said the school system is also completly broken and unaffordable and the teachers are saying to the 11 yo students to “explore themselves and try to find new genders in themselves” my aunt is completly angry by this and wants to move but her husbant has a full time job in there so they have to stay

This is very true. I am an Austrian citizen that tried to immigrate into Canada from 2021-2023, I worked my ass off, working 2 jobs for most of my stay and living as cheaply as possible. I still burned through all my savings and a significant amount of money my family sent me to help out. I had an accident and waited for hours for an ambulance to show up, they transported me to a different city because in this town none of the two hospitals had a fucking X-Ray machine. Then the next morning the hospital in the other city kicked me out again, with a fucked up back, because there were no beds available. Had to call my neighbours to come pick me up again (thank you Tracy, love you) because I couldn't get home anymore. Lost one of my jobs thanks to this and started a different one, couldn't afford live in BC anymore and moved to Winnipeg because I heard live there is cheaper. It is, but not significantly so, but you pay for this by living in terrible conditions. Rent was still high, salary was shit, the public transport system is.... Existent but not reliable and the city is so incredibly dirty. There's garbage everywhere. Between my apartment and the nearest dollar store was one garbage can and that was a 20-30 minute walk, here in Vienna there's garbage cans everywhere and thanks to them the city is cleaner. \n\nAnyways, I gave up on moving to Canada and came home. Still dealing with my fucked up back (though it's getting better thanks to Physio and a good doctor) and the debt I accrued in the last few years. But my apartment costs less than half for the same size, my job earns me significantly more money, my phone plan is better and costs less than half and the food is both much much cheaper and much much better. \n\nI am happy with life now. Thank you Canada for showing me how bad even other parts of the developed world are, I really learned to appreciate Austria while I was away.
