So sorry Canada I was born there in Quebec Canada and have lived here since childhood in the US you are our neighbors and I can’t believe this is happening and my hopes are that this will all be settled. We didn’t vote for Trump so please believe as Americans that we don’t agree with this that we are not all as Americans are on board with this

I will do everything within my limited economic (non-billionaire), physical and social power to protect Canada against american aggression. You have threatened our democratically elected government, natural resources, economy and personal freedom. By electing “that person” as your leader and aligning with authoritarian dictatorships like Russia, you have threatened not only Canada and Ukraine but world peace. You have threatened your own economic and personal freedom. Prime Minister Trudeau spoke succinctly in a comprehensible way to let you, the american people, know the seriousness of your choice. If you understand what you have done and realize the implications, then peacefully protest (if that is still allowed with your evolving fascist/populist/authoritarian government). Contact your local, state/territorial and federal government officials. You can let your governors, senators and representatives know that you do not agree with the government’s actions and the subsequent hardship it will impose not only on the world but on you, your family and neighbours. Make change happen in a peaceful, non violent manner, while you still can. We didn’t ask for nor want this absurdly unnecessary confrontation but when attacked, we will fight our old friends and historic allies. Elbows up Canada!

Wow! Sweden here. I stand by Canada. This is how a true leader speaks. What Trump is doing is irrational and he still don’t seem to understand how tariffs works. He’s hurting his own people with yet another effort to break down all alliances around the world. He threatens Europe, Palestine, Greenland, Mexico and many more. He cuts funding for Ukraine and aline with Russia. He managed in a month to crash so many lives in his own country and do not keep promises from his campaigns. How can one man destroy so much….

This breakup with Canada will be used to justify getting much needed minerals and such from... yes you guessed right, Russia and Ukraine, as soon as we abandon them to the butcher. This was WITHOUT gutting our federal agencies, cutting back on SNAP and Medicaid and firing federal employees and gutting the agencies' ability to do oversight with the Offices of Inspector General. I can't even tell you why Dept. of Defenses is calling off our cyber defenses against Russia who hacks everything in America nuclear power plants, hydro, etc. Got my gas today - our refineries are fitted for Canadian oil though it's not a 25% tariff but Canada could slap an export tax on it to be paid by us.

This has nothing to do with Canada or the Canadian people. This is a pure transactional move because that is how Trump sees things. He needs the money to finance his agenda and he has been told that the money does not exist in terms of what the US Congress can provide. They won't cut military spending and they wouldn't dare touch SS or Medicare. All I can say is I am sorry, embarrassed, and ashamed of my broken country's politicians in Washington, D.C. at present. I have always been a proud American citizen. My paternal side of my family has been traced back to the Mayflower and I have ancestors and family that have served in the Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, WWl, WWll, Vietnam, the Gulf, and Afghanistan. This country has made many mistakes and has had much shame throughout its existence for various things but this is the first time and U.S. president has turned his back on our friends and allies in favor of an evil authoritarian leader named Vladimir Putin who strokes his massive ego and gives him elusions of power and respect from Putin when in reality Putin is playing Trump like a fiddle. The New York Times was not right. Donald Trump is not a bright guy. I stand strongly with my friends in Canada ??.

I voted for Trump and a lot of his policies and actions I agree with, THIS one I do not, Canada did not let in NEARLY as many illegal immigrants as Mexico so it makes no sense why he is punishing them, and he isn't, he just doesn't like Trudeau probably because he was friends or friendly with Biden, same with Zelensky AND Canada wanted to ban products from red states for electing him which is frankly just a stupid policy. \nThis is not hard to figure out, Trump doesn't like Trudeau and Ford, plain and simple......it really is THAT shallow, he is trolling Trudeau by calling them the 51st state and anyone know knows Trump and how he thinks knows that.

For all the American's siding with Canada. Did you know Canada has never fulfilled its obligation to Nato. they only pay 1% of its gdp. They are supposed to pat 2%. The united States has been carrying the water for Canada and other countries so they can flaunt social programs like universal healthcare. So the American government protects Canada with our military and cost the American tax paying people billions of dollars to protect this country that we get nothing in return for our protection. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. It’s heartening that so many nations have solicited Canada, offering alternative sources for common US exports to Canada —citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, and other manufactures, to name a few.\n\nI don’t think Canadians even realize how big this unofficial boycott is getting because it’s growing so fast. I’ve never seen a surge in Canadian patriotism like this. Never in my seven decades —which includes the two Referenda on Quebec separation. And there’s a federal election approaching when all partisans will be one-upping each other in the patriotism department—which manifests in more boycotts of US goods and hospitality services.\n\n Americans should know that the unofficial boycott is more harmful to US exporters than the official targeted countervails because it features immediate and longterm diminishment of Canadian purchases of US goods—all retailers know it’s very hard to recover lost customers once they’ve found alternatives (and the added patriotic effect only makes it worse). Included is diminishment of Canadian visits to the USA. Indeed, the internet is replete with testimonies of Canadian”snow birds” not only forgoing their annual sojourn in the Florida or Arizona sunshine but also of selling their properties there with the parting shot, “I will never vacation in the US again!” Already Mexico has seen its visits from Canadians (who have had a modest presence in Mexico for years) surge to unprecedented levels. I know from much-welcomed temp Mexican construction workers in BC (where I live) that they view Canadians completely differently from our mutual US neighbours—and now that affection is growing like never before. \n\nI’m continually amazed at how uninformed Americans are about tariffs—and misinformed by tRump and his goofy, preposterous, and ridiculous fantasy of world-domination. When tRump uses the lame excuse to implement emergency powers —that Canada is “allowing” (as Vance puts it) fentanyl to “pour into the USA”—it’s tantamount to saying Ukraine started the war with Russia. I used to think that the idea that Trump is a Russian asset was just a conspiracy theory. I am not sure of that now as how else to you explain why Trump is doing everything he can to undermine the USA? Why else would you cause a breech between the US and our allies Canada and Mexico? Why else would he destroy the infrastructure of our country through Musk and Doge? Why else would you stop all aid to Ukraine? Why would you stop cyber operations targeting Russia? Why would he set up an operation to humiliate the leader of an allied country fighting for its life against Russian aggression? Why would you send your vice president to Germany and have him insult our allies and not meet with the leadership of the country but rather meet with the essentially neo-Nazi Alternative for Germany? None of this--and many other actions--makes sense unless you begin to understand that Trump is actively trying to weaken our country to the benefit of the Russians. I know it is hard to believe but I can find no other explanation.

This is HEARTBREAKING, because Trudeau is speaking to EVERYONE like a leader SHOULD!!! He left NO doubt how much he cares about his fellow citizens, and that their government will help them as much as they can!! \nThis is what AMERICANS dream about, a leader that cares about us!!! We wish and pray that our leader looked and spoke like that!!! \nCANADA is showing the WORLD what TRUE LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE!!! With Canada here...this is going to hurt US consumers and business more, and with inflation still an issue, this will only make things worse for us here. Where are our elected officials? I’m an American and I did Not vote for Trump. I knew he would destroy our country if he was elected. Many people are angry in America that Trump has launched this trade war with our Canadian friends. We love our neighbors. Many Americans do not want this. We are not happy with how things are changing for the worst in our country and in other countries. We are being ruled by an insane, thug/criminal and bully and his rich, puppet buddies. Diplomacy is not in their vocabularies. This is so sad. Stay strong Canada??

Canada is also our closest leech. By all rights you shouldnt even be an independent country. You're the second biggest country in the world, you have the 28th largest military. Your entire population is barely over that of california. You're economy is borderline pathetic, and your government is even worse. Kick this Trudeau clown to the curb and get a better PM. As far as im concerned any free nation that limits speech and rights the way canada does is simply not free. We would gladly take everyone west of Winnipeg and accept you into the USA. But Quebec and Ontario can piss right off.
