I'm not a Canadian. The rational question to ask is--how much of the problems noted are new and real; how much is due to immigration; how much is fabricated by self-seeking politicians; how much is due to the wealthy becoming wealthier; and what should we (all nations, not just Canada) do about world-wide inequity. I'm not saying that it is the wealthier nations' responsibility to provide for the less wealthy and the impoverished, but what should we do? Anything? Nor am I saying, we should have less so that others can have a little more. But should we ignore those who have less--far less? And, how much of the problem, real or not, is due to the reasons given in this video? In this video, I do not see any serious statistics or economic analysis. A theme in this video is that growth is essential. But there's a limit to that too. Maybe these are signs that the world of growth across the globe is ultimately doomed. Are we capable of understanding the world with sufficient precision? Or is all our economics ultimately a sham?

Most Canadians are tolerant to immigration. However, we are fed up with the large number of immigrants the Federal government keeps bringing in. We have a massive housing shortage and they still increase immigration despite the shortage. The Federal Liberals believe housing speculators are the problem, so they put in a vacant home tax to prevent it, but how do you enforce this?\nThe real solution is to roll back immigration to 250,000 new Canadians a year until the housing shortage is somewhat taken care of.

I don’t think the average Canadian feels this way. I work in a downtown school of wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic realities. The kids get along, the parents are great. The problem is the cost of living crisis that all levels of government aren’t adequately addressing.

Honestly as an Immigrant I was definitely lied to by the country of Canada, and tbh this concern is lined with racism to an extent, but there are some valid concern for the most part. \n\nCanadian universities came to me high school, one of the academically successful high schools on my island and tried to take every single high performing student. The problem with some of the immigration is that some forget the values and ethics! I agree with this feeling shared all over. No, for now Canada don’t need a lot of people. The country need to fix this housing problem and fix its immigration policy. The problem is the type of people the government is bringing in. I'm an immigrant myself, living here for 20 years, and I remember the ton of paperwork I had to submit to prove I'm worth contributing to Canada's growth and economy. Today the government is only interested in bringing in criminals, refugees, low quality - low wage workers who won't contribute a dime to Canada's economy but become a burden on taxpayers. There are enough resources in this country to solve these problems. The problem is that the system is increasingly rigged against the poor and the middle class. The tax system favors evasion from corporations and the rich. The political system has been bribed out (lobbied out they call these days) Trudeau is just putting out fires and maintaining the status quo while pretending that he cares. It is questionable that the conservatives are interested in fixing those problems.

I agree that immigration should be regulated based on need or requirement. But let me ask this, are Canadians willing to work in the fields and do all blue-collar jobs for $8/hour? I don't know about Canada, but the problem in the US is that most Americans don't want to do these tasks for low pay so businesses rely on immigrant workers. If businesses pay a higher salary they won't be competitive with foreign companies. There is no easy solution to this. At least Canada doesn't have a green card lottery (which is 100% useless) system but a skilled-based immigration.

Western society: The population growth is too low and the governments are not doing anything to improve it. Instead, they see immigration as a cheap way to solve that problem. Today, trends in society have been anti-family, and abortions lead to this problem.

Lived in Toronto most of my life. The problem has been the Ontario Municipal Board which is the slowest to act legislators in the province. We left the private sector to do its thing not realizing that the OMB took years to approve residential units. Thankfully the red tape has been cut down and housing is being built like crazy. This problem will take at least a decade to be solved. Its not the immigrants fault. I can remember reading about a Nigerian refugee freezing to death in the cold because we couldn't get him housed. That isn't just cruel to him but shines a light on our own ignorance.

This isn’t totally accurate, and comparing Canada to the US is like comparing apples to oranges, a more apt comparison would be Canada and Australia (similar government structure, similar population, similar economy) unlike the us that has 8x our population and is the richest country in the world lol. \n\nThat being said the problems with the Canadian economy are pretty straightforward imo, for housing it’s simple, the Canadian government has invested heavily into the real estate market with things like the Canada pension plan being largely invested into the CPP. There is also a huge amount of people who have banked their retirement on the value of their home, for the most part these are blue collar workers. These two things combined have created a huge problem for the government, it basically has to choose between fixing the worsening housing crisis and in the process wipe out the savings and retirement accounts of millions of Canadians or let the problem get worse and worse until something boils over. This problem is also being compounded by the increasing number of international students being misled into coming here, they are being promised world class education but are receiving bogus diplomas from what are essentially sham colleges (thanks Ford). \n\nWhen looking at the competition in the country it’s a more complicated problem than people like to admit, in order to not become a client state of the US we have to place stronger protections on our industries and media, this insures that Canadian money stays within the Canadian market but has the drawback of discouraging competition. Now if you ask me the solution to this is to nationalize large industries that are being controlled by large oligopolies who unnecessarily manipulate the price of goods like Bell, Rogers, Loblaws, air Canada, petrol Canada, etc. By taking control of these industries the government could have better control of the price of goods and should result in better prices for consumers in turn we’re leaving some of the pressure placed on us by the cost of living crisis. This worked wonders for alcohol which in Ontario brings in 1.5 billion in revenue for the government each year, imagine how much internet, electricity, phone service and produce could bring in.
