My story is similar to yours Alina, moved to Canada at 15 y.o., lived there for 20 yrs and now moved away. It's been hard, Canada has been the place I'd call home and thinking that I may never come back to live there is a little heart wrenching. Looking forward to learning what place you picked for yourself. From my experience, it will not be easy whatever place you pick. The social connections, daily life, it will all take a long time to set up. One thing that helps is keeping in touch with the most important people in your life - whereever they may be.

Do you really think these crooks look like students who are here to study? What a joke. They are fraudsters, criminals, and hooligans who have found a super easy way to gain access to overseas countries like Canada, Australia, the UK, etc. through student visa, work permits, or refugees. They have destroyed the peace and harmony of the country. These crooks have no respect and social values and lack basic knowledge as to how they should behave in a civilized society. The message is out loud and clear that not only Canada but also other overseas countries should reconsider their immigration policies as well to prevent bad seeds from entering their borders.

Just came back from vacation in Japan. There are a lot of foreign workers in Japan too. It seems that Japan government is handling the labor shortage in a more organized way. For the employees working in the service industry ie convinience store or hotel. They are very well trained. They can speak Japanese fluently and are adapting Japanese social behavier very well.

I have worked with and around Indians for 30 years. Many are my friends but most look for loopholes in the law, they avoid paying their taxes and they cheat. This is not a stereotype. If you have a huge home with multiple families then pay for your services. This is not a recent problem, it has being going on for years. Marks use to replace work boots if they work out too quickly, why not have the person with the largest feet pick them out, use them for 8 hours, pass them on to the next person and again. The problem is simple. If its an issue of cost of living, while its true that it is very high, its very high across the industrialized world. That is because the causes influencing cost of living are not related to inside Canada but are being influenced by foreign actors which Canada has no control over. The Ukraine-Russia War for example is causing increases to food costs which are not easily overcome. The situation in the Middle East between Hamas and Israel threatens to spiral into a regional war and that threatens the oil supply and the present price for oil and gas. The Houthi have been making it hard to traverse the Red Sea which is forcing shipping to travel around Africa rather than directly through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea meaning those additional fuel costs get transferred over to the consumer. As for housing, while efforts to cool housing markets have been made, Canada's housing market is still relatively hot meaning the prices remain high in big cities. Its like a perfect storm. Increased costs on mortgages are an attempt to push down inflation but in the short term you are going to feel that as well. Also we are living in a transition period as the world sinks back to the older model of trade before before Bretton Woods in 1947 which is leading to a decoupling of product lines that at one time coming from Asia were cheap but are not more expensive because they are being made back in the home countries. Transitions do come with a price. Finally, add taxes which help to deal with health care, social programs and government services like embassies, foreign missions and the army well yeah its a perfect storm.\n\nI hope you have luck where you end up but do not for a minute assume that the grass is greener on the other side. Even Japan which attempts to keep certain costs low, has been forced to increase its national consumption taxes to offset overall costs. It isn't going to get cheaper but more expensive as we move back to the old trade model. However, as the world weans itself off of the World Trade Organization and the IMF, the world also re-opens the potential to a Great Depression because that was the reason Bretton Woods appeared in the first place. The world isn't going to get better but far worse.

Don't conflate hating Indians and an obviously unsustainable immigration rate. I'm a natural born Canadian, I'm pro-immigration. So long as it is managed and targeted at areas of need for the country. I never painted all Indians with the same brush when the food bank and Wasaga incidents happened. When you bring in 1.2M a year, you will get some bad actors. However, that's the issue, that many people, coming over in such a short period of time, the infrastructure and social safety net cannot support everyone. It's unfortunate, but necessary that immigration rate is reduced and reformed.

With the premise that over the arc of 40 years we had two exceptional wonderful Indian family doctors, the current crop of immigrants are a disgusting representation of their country of origin! well, if they were there for school, not sure how many completed it, or just went to work and whatever... If done or failed, go back, and apply properly, everyone sees worldwide how past few years of extremely lax immigration standards and enforcement is affecting ALL Western Liberal led governments, all suffering. No it's economic survival. Our kids can't find work. TFW are taking jobs in fast food and retail, not agriculture. Their money gets sent home. It doesn't stay here and it doesn't benefit our economy. Canada's most of the social welfare schemes work on the high taxes collected from working class. But Canada isn't manufacturing much stuff and exporting. So economy is still stagnant. Long waiting time for healthcare is because of huge influx of immigrants but not enough investment in medical staff. Right now there's recession too so getting job for immigrants is tough. Housing is also getting affected. Canada needs to address these issues.

I am in the country in rural Northern Ontario and I must say life is still grand! I do avoid the major cities as they are too busy, too much traffic, and yes too much homelessness! This is due to ALL POLITICAL PARTIES NOT INVESTING IN GOOD CHEAP HOUSING! Yes, it is a problem with ALL the political parties, NONE have addressed it, from even before Harper to Trudeau today! I think that it's not hating Indians, it's more about the there are WAY too many immigrants coming into Canada that require our social services and therefore our tax money. There are many unemployed immigrants, Indian or not, now, along with regular unemployed citizens. Also, family members coming over on tourist visas and working under the table, yet adding more to the unemployment issues. It is NOT about racism as much as the shear number of immigrants coming into Canada causing the housing shortage and higher prices as a result of it.

I’m an expat from Southeast Asia and have been living in Germany and the Netherlands for over 14 years. While I’ve occasionally encountered racism, overall, I’m happy living in Germany. I’ve been fortunate that all of my jobs so far have only required English, but speaking German is crucial for building friendships and having a social life. Like any other countries, Germany has pros and cons. That said, I also agree with the perspective that, to integrate, learning the language is essential. After all, if someone isn’t willing to speak the language, why would they choose to live in that country?
