There's many reasons not to like Trudeau up here in Canada, many of which are the reason he'll (rightfully) no longer be the PM next week. As a conservative I hated him for SNC-Lavalin (among other scandals), and the fact that his inexperience with the economy Harper left him is probably part of why this trade war is going to hurt more than it could have, and the fact that he's often been kind of a phony more concerned with looking and sounding good for the press cameras. Not this time. Nothing phony here; I've got to give credit to him for capturing the national mood pretty much perfectly with this speech. Good on him. \n\nAnd congratulations as well to Donald for pretty much handing the Liberals their best shot at a fourth term, too. What an absolute idiot. Normally I'd turn my nose up at having to vote Liberal, but I am so, so sick of the brand of empty populism Trump stands for that it looks like that's what I'm gonna be doing come election time.

the comparison of listening to trudeau (whatever you might or might not think of him) and then listening to trump is like taking the comparison of a child being mad and a relaxed adult and exagerating it to comic like extremes.

Canadian here. There's a lot of people in Canada that don't like Trudeau for a lot of reasons, but with the recent events I think the majority of the country has come to tolorate him a little while longer until we get a new Prime Minister. Trumps actions have only united the Canadian people.

Tariffs on Canada would likely reduce real gross domestic product to zero in 2025 if implemented beyond a year and lead to a 2% contraction in 2026 with a peak unemployment rate of more than 8%. Trump told Canada if you did TWO THINGS, there would be no tariffs on Canada. One, stop illegal immigrants from pouring into the USA from Canada. Two, stop illegal drugs from coming into the USA from Canada. Did Trudeau comply with President Trump's request? If so, there must be a lack of communication to verify what has transpired. If not, then Trump imposed tariffs for lack of compliance. Now, if Canada has already complied yet the Trump admin imposed tariffs anyway, then that is a slap in the face to our neighbors to the north and the American people should be outraged and let Trump know it.

Everyone thinks that this is Canada standing up, but what this means is that the Canadians with our economy that is 1/10 that of the US will be taxed at 25% on our imports, this is going to hurt canadians way more than the retaliatory terrifs will hurt the americans. This may also lead to an escalated response from the US exacerbating the effect. Canada could be one of the wealthiest countries in the world and Canadians could have a very high standard of living. We have no investment or tourism in BC, no foreign buyers, almost no airbnb, no fruit, soon to be no wine, but at least we have free drugs and 2000 genders, right Provincial NPD?
