As a Canadian I am embarrassed, ashamed and fearful! Everything that this idiot spews forth is just pure drama. All President Trump wanted was for Canada to take care of the drug problem that has killed so many. In the 9 years that this government has been in power he has done absolutely NOTHING to stop this catastrophe, in fact he has stood by and watched it get worse….enabling cartels to gain more power with a lax system of slap on the wrist laws. And his immigration department is asleep at the wheel.  \nI pray that some common sense enters the picture soon…

It's interesting he didn't mention anything about the 232 Canadian Tariffs to US Goods already in place for years on things such as Steel, Aluminum, and a slew of household goods and appliances. Weird.

Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. Maybe he should understand that the US has always been bleeding money to Canada on a trade level for about half a century with it getting much worse in the last decade because Canada's government are greedy. Before any of you come at me, keep in mind I work in the food ingredient industry as an order processing, logistics and customs & border crossing and have done so for 15 years. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

My Canadian health products I use for my colon has gone up 50% today. Unemployed, prices high at grocery store and my stock investments I use to survive and pay my bills tanked as market has reached bottom. Thanks to Trump we Americans will go on a recession and a depression soon.

As a Canadian, I want to say that we love our American friends and neighbours. We are proud to call you our closest ally, and our shared history and relationship is cherished by all Canadians. Until now. The fact that we are being treated worse than authoritarian threats like Russia or China is beyond insulting. We don’t deserve this. As a Canadian, I didn’t vote for Trudeau but I have to hand it to him, he has expressed the thoughts and feelings of the majority of Canadians very well. Canadians are generally pretty laid back and easy going, often too polite for our own good. However, as the Americans in 1812, the Germans in WW1 and WW2, the Chinese and North Koreans in the Korean War and the Taliban in Afghanistan found out we don’t shy away from a fight when we are provoked. We will never bow down to that orange orangutang in the White House.

The USMCA trade agreement between Canada, Mexico, and America, initially brokered and lauded by Trump as “terrific,” is now being scraped. The stated reason, a national security threat due to fentanyl originating from the Canadian border (approximately 43 pounds in 2024), is bogus. This pretend “security threat,” allows Trump to circumvent congressional oversight and undermine constitutional norms. Canada's historical contributions to the United States are extensive, including WWI, fighting Hitler in WWII for two years before they joined the fight, declaring war against Japan WWII after Pearl Harbour before America did, was 25% of D-Day’s landings, support during the Iranian hostage crisis, after 9/11, in Afghanistan, and during natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina and California wildfires. However, Canada is now being treated transactionally, with a lack of respect to a historical friend and ally.

As an American and a Trump supporter, I agree with these tariffs, but only equal to the tariffs other countries charge the United States on our imports. I do not agree with imposing this on our brothers and sisters to the north. I’m speaking of the good people of Canada. I have traveled to Canada and crossing the border was just like crossing into another state. Yes, there was a border gate which there should be, but I had absolutely no problem whatsoever. I hope our government can work this out very quickly and stop this foolishness. But to countries like China and Europe the United States should charge a reciprocal tariff as to what you charge us on our import. It’s only fair. Why are we paying an exuberant tariff for our goods entering your country and you expect to pay nothing with your goods entering ours. Most Americans, love Canada and love our Canadian brothers and sisters, we’ve always supported each other in world, wars, and other attacks against our respective countries. I pray this is resolved quickly, and then we can once again live United and in harmony.

As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

Agree with Trudeau here, and as a Canadian conservative, that’s not something I say easily. But let’s get real here. Trump is NOT a smart guy. He has cratered most businesses he’s started, he has no understanding of economics whatsoever and he speaks like a five-year old. As a South African, I want to say that this trade war, as well as the hostile approach of Trump towards Canada, is devastating. If one were not experiencing it directly, it would be almost impossible to believe. This is such a remarkable speech that it will go down in history as one of the truly great speeches in times of crisis. It is entirely correct to address the American and Canadian peoples directly, as the Prime Minister has done. They are both clear victims of this madness, Americans misled, and Canadians the target, of this senseless trade war. If one reads History, there is another dimension to this, and I hate to say it. Canadians have to prepare themselves for worse. These types of antics by the aggressor usually involve, finger pointing, contrived border incidents, plausibly deniable incursions and other actions, by the aggressor, which one can find if the preludes to the WW1 and WW2 are studied. The reason for this 'trade war' is not about 'trade'. It's about 'creating chaos' so that president Trump is the 'centre' of world attention. Maybe its time for others in positions of authority in other institutions to step in and 'take control'. You would never let a child drive a super car on the highway so how much 'damage' has to happen before a world leader is not 'held to account' and his 'hands removed' from the steering wheel before there is a motor accident so large that the freeway is rendered unless and has to be totally shut down your.
