I fled a mentally abusive relationship that I was in for 12 yrs and this loser I was with could care less if I have any place to live, food to eat, other basic necessities. He is a narcissistic man and blamed me for all the problems he caused. I have to use the food bank every month because I work minimum wage and can’t afford groceries. I live in the Edmonton ab area and apparently the alberta income support will only help you if you make less than $1600 a month or if you are going to be evicted from a place your renting. Our prime minister Justin Trudeau doesn’t care about the people. He has never know. Hardship and doesn’t care to understand or care for those who do

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

I live in a small rural Northern community, East Indian immigrants have bought out or taken over nearly every business in the community, our car wash, both grocery stores, both Hardware stores, subway, pizza place, two of the three restaurants, only motel, nearly all the rental properties, and they are shifting their investment now to homes, as we can still buy homes up here for reasonable prices, they are buying them, doing some cheap renovations, and trying to flip them for large amounts. All these local small businesses in the community used to employ young people from the community, they used to be places of employment for summer jobs for students and for the elderly people who retire here to have jobs to keep busy. Since the influx of people from India, all of the jobs in these stores that have been bought out by them are now done by Indian people, nearly everyone who used to work these jobs in my community has lost the opportunity to do so because since the businesses were bought out by Indians they only hire their own kind as employees. I know at least 10 people directly that have lost their jobs due to this, and there are certainly more. We allow foreign investment in our business and real estate market, and these people come in, completely take over and dominate these small communities, and fill them with their young people from India and take away all the jobs from the local people living here. Its horrible. My wife and I are planning on moving to Eastern Europe, Canada in another few decades will be nothing more than a province of India.

This is a shame, I myself am an immigrant. I , along with multitudes, do not see a reason to move out.\n\nThe system is misused. Most of these get the Permanent Residence stamped on their passport or citizenship done only to jump to other countries. Just have a more refined selection process. \nLove Canada for opening its door and am grateful for that. The people are welcoming and accommodating. \nPeople always find something to crib on forever, in fact it is these very same people who came knocking here in times of desperation only to complain about taxes now when they have benefited from the various offers are done with.

It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. The fact is you’ll never have a good paying job in Canada being an immigrant. When I say this trust me I mean it. Most you’ll get is a minimum wage job which can make you survive the life here. Taxes are high definitely and what I feel is you’re working to make someone else’s life easier. \n(P.S: people who’ve stayed in Canada will understand who I’m implying to)\nNo one wants to be your freind, scope of socializing is zero coz mostly it’s cold round the year so everyone hardly come out, especially in Northern provinces like Yukon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba.\nHealthcare is a joke. If you feel sick and not well and you wanna see a doctor be prepared to wait for hours and hours. I once had stomach infection and I had to wait 5 hours till someone could see me. I asked for painkiller at-least so I could bear the pain but they refused that as well. You might well see someone you love dearly and with whole heart die in-front of you and you could do nothing. (I’ve experienced it myself hence saying)\nYou’re a lone survivor who’ll always keep fighting. \nThe only person who can make money here is businesses and high paid jobs which are reserved to Canadians. That’s how Canada’s job market is. Canadians’ first and if there’s something left they’ll look at you. By the amount of money people invest here they can establish a nice business back in their country itself and earn accordingly on own terms. \nMost importantly you’ll cut yourself from all emotional supports like family, freinds etc.\nI was social person back in India who liked making new freinds and memories but it’s nothing like that here. \nAnd it’s the same life, no different.\nYou wake up, dress, eat, go to work, come back, eat, sleep. No different.\nNo fun and nothing. You actually don’t live in present, you live in an expectation of a better tommorow.\nYou’ll always have a smile when you greet someone but I guarantee you no one’s gonna check on you to if you don’t start a conversation even with a simple “Hi”. Mostly Canadians are nice but again some will systematically judge you and say nothing but you’ll see in their actions, the way they’ll talk in a twisted way etc.\nYes I’m not saying that Canada’s bad or it’s no good but trust me it will take forever to build a life here especially with the number of people moving here from round the world. \nIf you’re well off financially from back home Canada’s a paradise for you. Indeed it’s a beautiful country with lots of beauty and lots to explore but remember everything comes with a cost here. Everything comes with a cost. People need to stop believing in this fake illusion and come only if they got a purpose here. The only reason why they’ll let you in the country is for money and once you’re in you’ll have to keep spending, doesn’t matter if you’re broke or whatever you have to.\nOnce I earn I’ll happily give up my PR status and go back to India as i very well know what the situation is how it’s gonna be in future.\nSo just one piece of advise to every middle class person like me, guys please invest and spend your money wisely coz we know how hard it is to earn and it’s high time Canadians start appreciating what immigrants like us do for them by burning ourselves day and night and start realizing that their past generation once came from some other part of the world as well and settled here. Being white doesn’t make you a nice Canadian, you’re actions defines you more than your words. \n90% of this country is built by immigrants and that’s how it’s gonna develop in future, so if they keep treating us the same way good luck to them ?.\nAlso a plus note to anyone thinking that Asians are stealing your jobs, go get outside and have the balls to face them and take it away from them. Staying home and ranting and abusing us that we’re taking your opportunities and blah blah isn’t gonna work. We are so successful round the world because we are hardworking, honest and respectful to everyone. Even if we’re earning minimum and barely surviving here we always make sure we’re not burden on the government or anyone else and won’t keep crying.\n\nA big shoutout to all you guys who came here in the hope of a better future but are still struggling.\nKeep hustling and you’ll reach there, if not step down and go back and start your life again on your home soil. My immigration process took 14 years in total until I could get here, it was a blessing and I had a lot of gratitude to be here after living in a warzone. Ive lived in Winnipeg for 10 years, a part of me was always happy and okay to deal with the cold because at least nobody would be killing you or attempting to on a daily basis, with rockets and bombs. 10 years later, I was wondering that the only reason we came here was to escape war, and not find a better quality of life. You can tell me “you don’t like it then leave” but i find it disturbing that many Canadians here don’t recognize how bad the situation gets, when governments don’t do anything to enhance quality of life and corporates take control everywhere and raise the costs to unbelievable numbers. Housing crisis, most can’t afford houses or even rent a nice apartment. Healthcare system is a complete dogshit mess, people here don’t recognize the importance of how much this industry needs to be supported by governments and citizens because EVERYONE benefits from it and stay alive longer. I don’t know man, I only see it collapsing going forward, especially when everyone is divided and the aboriginal issues are a constant trend.

How about letting these hard working doctors and nurses from other countries help out our health care system when in a lot of cases they have higher education and standards than we do here. Makes absolutely NO SENSE. But then again Libs don't make a lot of sense either. Trudeau venture singles, gets people in just long enough to secure thier vote. Then these people realize you can't live here because Libs spend like drunken sailors. The only thing that is Rocket science is Rocket science..

this is scary. we don’t even know who we’re letting into our own country. and with everything currently going on, who knows how many of them are sleeper agents or terrorists sent to destroy the country from within? especially with a vast majority of them being fighting age men? islamic extremists, terrorists, all people we’re letting cross into our country FREELY, and supporting and encouraging BETTER than our own citizens?!\n\nmany of them hate the very country, people, and values they’re illegally entering and eventually overpopulating and mass influencing. eventually these same people will hold positions of power, and the sheer number of them is absolutely overwhelming and can’t be ignored, with the number increasing each day our borders remain open, and security and stricter laws aren’t enforced. and with the constant display of weakness and incompetence from our “leaders”, they may just be emboldened. i’m afraid that one day, they may just rise up and commit mass terrorism. looting, murder, are all possibilities. and with the sheer number of them, we wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. they would be the ones in power now. thing is, our country supports and helps the illegals who hate them more than their own citizens. it’s absolutely treasonous. the longer our borders remain unprotected and wide open, their numbers will only increase, and so will their terrorism. \n\nnot only that, but the amount of illegals we constantly let in and those who are already in, are absolutely negatively impacting our country’s economy, living conditions, population is increasing, many of which are illegals and are a danger to our society, their numbers increasing by the day and taking over our country from within and them holding positions of power, homelessness and cost of living is rising, debt and inflation also keep rising, etc. it’s all bad. \n\nmass deportations must be enforced, but even then, im afraid that too many of them have already infiltrated the country. and considering how our own government hates us and spends billions on everything else BUT their own citizens. it’s not looking good and has huge potential to explode into something terrifying. \n\nthis is already a massive ongoing threat in america, and the possibility of it happening here in Canada becomes more likely the longer our borders are open, and the longer stricter laws and more protective and security measures aren’t being enforced. canada must be canada FIRST with the safety, security, and well-being of our citizens FIRST. \n\nthough with the constant numbers, and the continued ignorance, evil, and corruption in our government, i’m afraid they’re already here waiting for the right moment to strike us. \n\nthat’s why above all, we can’t rely on our leaders to do anything or bring us peace. the only one who can, is Jesus Christ. the one who gave His life for us and gave us the free gift of salvation. all we must do, is follow him, pick up our crosses, have faith in him, and have a relationship with him. \n\nwe must all repent of our sins and lovingly follow him. that is all that matters. You wanted to come to the west to come to the west. How well did you plan your journey. I do not feel sorry for you. You made the choice to cone to this side of the world. You should have left your family in Nigeria if you are there to study. All the struggles you are talking about many other people are going through the same struggle. The first thing you should have done from Nigeria was learn about Canada, then look foe room and board that was close to your school. You should have left your family back home but that's the problem with you Nigeria. Apply for school visa then go the country bring your family trying to circumvent the immigration process. So deal with whatever struggles you are now faced with. Stop complaining you have only yourself to blame. Life in the west is not going to be easy until......

The problem is not immigration. During the pandemic there was no immigration for a few years, yet the price of the houses increased by about 20% a year or more. The problem is demand and demand is hugely increased by investors. Investors don't live in the place and in many cases they don't even rent the place. At lease half of those seeking to buy houses are investors. Therefore investors double the demand.\n\nHouses are limited supply whereas investors are numerous and have access to unlimited money either cash or loan from banks. We have created a housing market. It means we made it something like share market where everyone can put their money in it and buy as many as they want. During the pandemic demand for toilet paper became very high and there were limited supply. Supermarkets limited one or 2 packs per customer because it would be unfair for some to stack most of the papers and others have none. Some customers wanted to buy tons and fill their homes with toilet paper and they did. House and land is limited too. Why can't we do the same for homes? Demand is important and always going to be there from those who want to move there and live in it. Investors buy many homes and bid higher in value than normal people because they have more money and they know the price will rise. They raise the demand sky high. Specially if they're foreign investors. They can buy hundreds of apartments or houses and leave it empty.\n\nAs I mentioned, we do need certain amount of demand for housing and that demand is going to be always there by people who want to buy and live in it whether they're local or immigrants. However, when many investors come in and they have greed, the demand becomes sky high and the price will become so high that only investors can afford them. Rent also depends on the value of the property. The higher the price, the higher the rent. So the issue is investors. Too many of them with too much greed.

As a person born in Canada in the 50s I have seen the change in Canada over the decade to now where this Liberal gov had torn the hell out of what once was a terrific place to work and live. This interview sounds very legit. I can see immigrants being treated poorly but you need to understand as things get worse so does the treatment of one on one. You can't expect things to go smoothly when you open the flood gates to immigration and do nothing else. Where are these people going to live. Where are the citizens that have lived in Csnada decades going to live because our government has made life intolerable. I feel sorry for the immigrants who have moved here only to find it is not what was promised

Beant Singh indeed was responsible of killing thousands of innocent youth of Punjab. Not to point fingers, everyone need to do their own research and not rely on only Indian government provided sources such as newspaper and other media. Now these days media and YouTube channels get paid blindly by our government to defame Sikhs and call them terrorist even if they are fighting for their own rights. In the India airline bombing over 70% were Sikhs that were killed. Ripudaman Singh Malik was found not guilty, but he was shot dead in his car and suspect was not found, only one burnt car nearby. May be it was the same people who bombed Indian airline and killed Ripudaman Singh Malik to defame Sikhs. We all know how our Justice system works; Suspect get created by assumptions and then encounter. Sajjan Kumar is one of the master mind behind Sikh genocide, he was sentenced life imprisonment by Delhi high court in 2018, but he’s out of jail now-why? In 1978 Bholanath pandey and Devendra pandey hijacked airline to release Indra Gandhi from jail. Both of these guys were not arrested/encountered nor called terrorist instead they were given MLA seats; Is this our justices system?

I've traveled extensively through the US. It is a beautiful country only surpassed by the amazing people. Would I live there, no. Is Canada better? Well, we're not afraid of helping one another through taxation. Socialism is not communism, it's just where you pay that changes. we lived in the USA for 14 years and actually because citizens before we moved back to Canada, and to this day, maintain dual citizenship. The health care was the biggest difference. Fighting with health care providers to get them to pay their portion of a bill was the WORST. They automatically turn down every claim the first time around so you have to get on the phone and fight with them. In the USA, you can only see doctors within your health care provider, or you have to pay full on to see someone outside it. You also have to pay to see your family doctor even if its for a annual check up. NONE of that happens in Canada. Health care in Canada is provided by the government. Health care in America is a BUSINESS, and they are all fighting for your $$. Being self employed in the USA was an eye opener, with a $1100. a month premium, so that we had a reduced annual deductible. No deductible or monthly premiums in Canada. Americans should NOT HAVE TO DECLARE BANKRUPTCY just because they get sick. Otherwise, we loved living there. Great people, awesome Mexican food (you can't get that in Canada), beautiful beaches and excellent access to them. Amazing highway systems,. At the time we lived there, housing was affordable, food and clothing were cheaper than Canada. None of that is true these days. You guys pay as much as we do for food and shelter.

I think greed is the main reason for the problems in the USA. Canadian doctors don’t make the,only American doctors do. But the are very comfortable and happy. Big pharma gouges the America people. Not fair. You shouldn’t have to make a choice of paying groceries or brining your child to a doctor. Can that be the reason for their state of mind. They see the upper class living in huge beautiful homes and drive big luxury cars and they are stuck in their poor area. Not fair. Maybe things need to change at the top.

We have pondered moving to the US but it always scares me thinking of all the service safety nets behind. I don't know how many Americans know this, but basically at birth you are assigned a health card which you keep for the rest of your life. Anytime you go to the doctor they ask for that and it has all your info on it (family doctors, your address, etc) and that's all you do. See the doctor and then leave. Private/work health insurance is more for prescription, dentists,massage, therapy, physio, eye, ambulance rides,etc. \nBut childbirth, ER visits, doctors visits all covered by that card...which is funded by our are taxes. We are taxed to hell and back on the daily but it's just so normal you don't think differently of it. We do have a shortage of Dr's though. An ER wait can be upwards of 2-4 hours and your family doctor can take weeks to get an appointment with so you usually have to go to a hospital or walk in if it's urgent.\nAlso, guns. Guns guns everwhere ? I saw a sign when I was walking into Walmart in Florida saying to not bring guns inside and I just couldn't believe that was a thing that had to be said. In Canada, guns are for hunting and going to the range and that's the only time they're allowed out of their safe. Obviously you have people who have stolen and smuggled guns and that's how you get gun crimes (you need a special card to buy guns and ammo, that you get after passing a gun safety course and *most* gun crimes are not committed by people who hold those cards). Been in Canada for approximately 25 years. I can say that the effect that Canada has on a legal immigrant is neither here nor there. If you can make lemonade out of any lemon you’re dealt, you will thrive in Canada (and anywhere else where your efforts are not overwhelmingly quashed by corruption, blatant racism or other forms of segregation). \n \nLynn, I was a lecturer in Kenya, went back to school here in Canada after wallowing in culture shock the first year, then circled back to teaching in college again after an arduous journey in school, but this time in a different field. \n \nAfter becoming a single mother of four kids, I had to also hustle on the side to build a small business empire along my life’s ladder. Partnership with God, goal clarity, the get-up-and-go, and relentlessness truly work. It isn’t the size of the dog but the fight in the dog that does it, regardless of where you live. \n \nThe starting point for a new immigrant can be very low due to the weather, unpreparedness and culture shock, but if you know that the only way is up, and are self-motivated, those challenges are soon behind you as the tests become testimonies. \n \nBy comparison people have more human rights here regardless of their status. The wheels of justice grind slow but they do grind fine. Women and children have equal rights with men. Politicians are mostly there to serve not necessarily to exploit. \n \nOpportunities for self-development galore - including being trained to become employable and going to school at any age (sometimes for free while you are still at the bottom of the ladder). There are food banks so you never go hungry if it came to that. The disabled are better treated with dignity. \n \nThere are prolonged parental leaves for both moms and dads for up to 18 months. Commensurate with earnings, parents under certain thresholds are given Canada child tax benefits and other supplements for each child under 18 years of age. \n \nDepending on the number of kids and their ages, the money can add up handsomely. Not to mention that there’s no tuition to pay for primary and high school students. Tuition fees start at post-secondary level. \n \nTo see a doctor is free as it is paid for by taxes. It the meds that you and/or your insurance pays for. Some medical equipments may be paid for by either or both the individual/insurance and the government depending on eligibility. \n \nBy and large, there’s cleanliness of common spaces. There’s also safety and relative peace. At least wherever I have lived, I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to lock my door with impunity. \n \nThere’s a lot more stressful work here in my opinion, but like you said Lynn, systems work a lot more efficiently and effectively. \n \nThe elephant in the room is the extra hard work that those living abroad must put in to fulfil expectations back home. Also known as black tax, the overwhelming financial dependency of relatives on their diasporan loved ones places undue stress on many here, especially because there are no short cuts to getting money here. \n \nAnyway, Lynn, thanks for such a great topical issue you’ve shared. Born and raised in Toronto. I have lived here my whole life for over 50 years. The city has changed drastically and very rapidly. As my retirement approaches and my kids finish University, I am out of here. The crime, the cost of everything, terrible transit and roads that look like they have gone through a war. I live by the lake and we have homeless tent encampments and people living along the train tracks ( and this is the suburban part of Toronto, by the Rouge valley) These are only a few of the reasons why Toronto has changed for the negative ( and I do not see it getting any better)

I can't talk from a point of experience in Canada but from a point of experience in Kenya. Yes things are tough everywhere but I believe things are tuffer here in Kenya, well unless you have a good job, good business or money to invest. I have done of research about Canada, Germany, UK and even Finland. What I have learnt is that opportunities are there as opposed to Kenya. Here in Kenya it's doesn't matter if you have a skill, or papers getting a job is not easy and even harder is getting a good paying job. Most people makes less 10 CAdollars per day which today 1000 or 30 per month minimum wage in Canada is i guess 14.5 in the less expensive provinces. If you work 14 hours per \nDay which I believe possible you have about uko na 20k in ksh, pay tax of maybe 30% combined you have about 130 cad per day work for 25 days in a month you will have about 3250 net stay in most affordable place(hujaenda raha) you can get 1250 in low cost province (not Ontario or BC though here minimum wage iko juu), groceries and expenses budget 1000 per month you can save about 100k ksh pm, save in Cad for few years stay like a student on the budget but work like a donkey. Come back home in few years lets say 5 with save coins probably CAD will trading at 150 coz the hit shilling is taking mind-blowing. You will have 6m to invest any interest or forex gain use them to cover your vacation here in Kenya yes land in Diani you will have missed such weather, enda masai Mara (you deserve it), go visit your parents and most importantly find an investment opportunity you can do real estate but find ideal location but only if you have enough capital ya kujenga and then find someone professional to manage the construction not sending money to your relatives wanapiga sherehe nazo unatumiwa picha za mjengo za nyumba za wenyewe. Pia farming is underated buy a farm land in cheap area ukambani, laikipia, kajiado, taita etc at max 200k per acre 10 acres ni 2m borehole 1.5m with solar and pump. Development such as fenching and service quarters driplines 1m. 1.5 m is working capital ,use it for labour fertilizer, seeds and seedlings. Divide the farm into 5 parts along the fence panda miti ya eucalyptus, other parts do high value perennial cash crops with less management cost like 2 acres of avocado, 2 acres of pixes oranges, lime, the other 2 plant seasonal rotational plants you can even maize, cabbages io ingine do livestock of your choice. If you want low risk investment buy government bond less stress and you are sure government can never fail to repay their local currency bonds ata ikiwa bankrupt coz they can always print more money. Now rates are very high assuming you can get 10% rates with your 6m your will earn 600k risk free income. Your vacation is over, now go back to Canada and work like a donkey because you went there to work, not a vacation. In my opinion if you move to Canada without taking the proper steps and expect everything to work out for you then you are very naive and cannot complain. First off a lot of Kenyans are applying for visitor visas instead of work visas which are harder to get and thinking once they are in Canada they can look for work. You are not allowed to work on a visitor visa and most employers will not even consider your applications if you do not have either a work permit, refugee status, or permanent residency/ citizenship. Work experience is also very important here and many employers will not consider someone even with canadian education that has no experience. Another thing is Canadian benefits such as subsidized health care etc is only available to people that are on long term work permits with no conditions, refugees, and permanent residency holders and government housing is only open to refugees and permanent residency holders/ citizens. So in short if you move there without a plan, the correct papers, and the willingness to work even lower income jobs until you get Canadian work experience and expect the government to help you just because you landed then you are sorely mistaken and will very easily end up on the streets. Another thing is just because you are granted refugee status does not guarantee you a home as we have seen, the government housing waitlist is very long and even Canadian citizens that cannot afford their rent end up on the streets because there are too many people applying for housing. So please do not think just because you were allowed to stay as a refugee life will be sweet. \nHowever if you do your research and take the right steps so you are fully prepared, put in the time and effort even though things may not be happening immediately then you can have a success story.

Toronto is full to hell... bringing immigrants from Pakistani India and other countries that do not have the culture of people born in Canada…they only come to destroy the country and bring them with citizenship papers so they can vote for him and remain in power

I would much rather live in the USA, just way more things to do, can live in any climate I want, more fun, more outgoing people. People view America though the lens of the media, which only talks about the bad and people get brainwashed by this. No other country works so well with the amount of diversity America has (Canada is not close), it is a very tolerant country, we even broadcast individual instances of racism to the whole world, no other country does that. I make more money here, more opportunities. Just my opinion though, to each their own, I have a blast in America.

Pricing is not a Canadian specific problem. Look at anywhere people actually want to live in the US, it's essentially the same. LA and NY are just as expensive as Toronto. Only difference is there's less people in Canada that live in rural states like Iowa where everything is cheap because there isn't major city for hundreds of thousands of miles. This is all part of late stage capitalism and our inability to see past the short term. Corporations eventually take over if we don't do anything about it and everything becomes too expensive. People stop having kids so the government needs to increase immigration to support what few social systems we have left. As a African living in Canada, l can only say that life is hard everywhere however, there has been an influx of Africans coming here as visitors and then claiming refugee status. The system is overwhelmed and these people, if they have no money or familial support, will end on streets. Secondly, most immigrant go Toronto, they do not consider other provinces where resources are not as strained hence the homeless situation. Be smart, do your research and consider other regions, NWT, Nova Scotia, Saskachewan etc. Ontario is flooded!!

I know a few kenyans here in Australia came as visitors and told they could easily switch to a resident Visa while on shore unfortunately thats the worst lie ever made by an agent. I’ve looked for this girl I met at the train station and someone said she was taken to the detention centre. PEOPLE DO YOUR RESEARCH INFORMATION IS IN MOST OF THESE COUNTRIES WEBSITES! You have to gain over 100k to afford a living here… Infrastructure is very bad with long commuting hours and transit worst in Canada. It’s very widespread and there is nothing to see in the city itself expect if you love skyscrapers… The only reason people move here is due to job and salary if you are really an indispensable professional with a career, more welcoming and open to immigrants and apart from that nothing to do there… very crowded.. unsafe.. and you don’t really experience the vibe of the city like maybe Montreal that has its own downsides as well!! But its worth a try if you have that desire for some change in your life considering those caveats above.

Bhai, this is the usual problem with all western countries. They can not handle their inflation and welfare system is a burden that the politicians can not get rid off. Just like our reservation system in India which we can still tackle to some extent. But their welfare system includes students, disabled, elderlies, unemployed, rehabilitation of drugs, refugees intake every year. Besides, Chinese buyers are inflating the housing market everywhere in the world.\nAll my friends only want to invest in India and nowhere else lol. \nAnother thing I observed is that when people bring their parents overseas I do not see them happy. When I pass by them they stop for a second as if they are trying to talk to me. They have freedom in India to go to their friends and family but over here they just go for a walk around the mall, struggle to buy anything from supermarket and kids can't give them enough time.

I am an immigrant from South Africa here in Edmonton since June of 2023. What the brother is saying is true. Canadians make no room for the human element in the workplace/environment. Everything is based on productivity at the expense of your humanity. They also treat workers as very expendable and disposable. The fact that they import so many foreign workers to do certain jobs is perhaps a reason why born Canadians no longer want to put up with the exploitation (I don't know if this is the true reason though).\n\nCanada is very convenient, and public services and infrastructure are amazing compared with South Africa. But the rest of the culture is very sterile. Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Ice Hockey are considered cultural identities. Maybe the older generations had a distinctive culture, but most Canadians of today's are only interested in consumerism and the car lifestyle. If you are looking for people with warmth and depth, you will most likely find it with fellow immigrants (and maybe the poor and marginalized communities of Canada).\n\nCanada is a very safe country, and South Africa may not be worth it for me to return to. But the strongest element I thought for coming to Canada was that people here appreciated life and each other. This is not true. Canada is 'stable and happy' because the people are intoxicated by the comfort that material wealth provides the individual (despite all their complaints and problems, most Canadians still lead very comfortable and easy lives). Take away their comfort and materialism, and they won't know who they are. They won't know how to stand together either since they have been so strongly conditioned to live for themselves as individuals.\n\nCanadians are known for their politeness and friendliness, and this is true. But there is a big difference between politeness and kindness (and being genuine). Canadians are not kind.\n\nMy opinion is obviously limited and biased. I am sure there are wonderful and pleasant exceptions. But I will still limit these as exceptions. \n\nThink hard before choosing Canada (and perhaps also the USA). Unless you have a strong community to support you here, it will be a lonely and alienating experience.

Until you experience the horrors they have gone through don’t throw stones in glass houses the immigration system has been broken for years if people waited until it’s their time no one would realistically get through since there is a 20 year backlog and children who were brought here 20 years ago have been thrown out because they themselves were still not approved a decade or more later. Part of the issue is red state lax gun laws allowing cartels easy access to heavy machinery that can be taken back across the border. Do you really think corruption isn’t running all the way to the top and that the American government has not helped worsen the issues when any of these countries want control of their own fossil fuel. Consider how many rich people get to jump in line or border patrol on both sides being able to keep out legal crossings if you can’t pay their fees. If you fight the cartel military or government you will find yourself dead imprisoned and or tortured and if they are fleeing to save their family and willing to leave their whole life behind to go to a country whose language they don’t speak do you really think they can walk all the way to the border wait in a single file line hope they can request asylum and then wait 40 years to maybe get a call back for a hearing these ppl are forced into a rock and a hard place and for the majority of American politics most politicians have no interest on really figuring out a comprehensive and compassionate system to help get immigrants out of dangerous situations America barely cares about it’s homeless citizens veterans mentally or physically Ill every country is having serious issues because often leaders are really only looking out for themselves

We Africans want only free stuff. People must work. The road you drive on must be maintained, the electricity must be maintained then where do Africans think the funds will come from. As a second generation Nigerian immigrant (parents were born in Nigeria and I was born in the US). I 100% agree w/ his perspective. I’ve spent consider amount of time in Nigeria w/ my side of the family that’s doing well and the other side that aren’t. Aboard should only be for people who have no opportunity back home as in they have tried everything and nothing worked for them. If you are doing well in Nigeria, try and give birth to your kids in the US so they can retrieve citizenship. There is no reason a successful person back home should sell their things and move aboard even for kids as you can send them aboard to receive an education and help them gain citizenship and from their they can file for you. The amount of systemic racism, odd jobs you will have to work (God forbid you don’t have a degree and you move aboard for non degree purposes that’s when aboard will show you pepper), cost of surviving is expense here especially now as inflation is high. It’s just not benefiting especially if you were better off in Nigeria. However, this shouldn’t stop you from coming just know that the road isn’t easy and some places are worse than others. I’ve never been to Canada but have been to the UK and by far would advice anyone from back home to avoid UK at all cost. Not even sure how Nigerians are even making it there lol (it’s a never ending cycle of poverty plus citizenship is very difficult to gain and the discrimination in my opinion is much worse than the US. UK society has a class system and it only really empowers British people. The UK is so bad that they even discriminate against Eastern Europeans that should let you know a lot.) Also why do you think most Brits Nigerians come back to Naija hoping to secure job compared to American Nigerians and let me tell you it’s not because the UK is close to Nigeria, there is a true lack of opportunity. There are more opportunity in the US and possibly Canada compared to the Europe.

Great documentary, but in my opinion, it's terribly one-sided, portraying these colleges as villains and the students as poor, innocent victims. As a former international student from India myself, who had the privilege of attending a prestigious university in the UK, working there, and moving on, the workings of this situation are as clear as daylight and as old as the hills. \nIt wasn't any different back then in the UK 20 years ago, during the heady Blair days, when UK colleges significantly increased their intake of international students, aided by a lax visa regime. This was also in response to tighter visa restrictions in the US following 9/11. Students enrolling in such colleges, as well as the parents funding them, are well aware that these are degree mills. The sole aim here is to somehow navigate through college and stay long enough until permanent residency comes through. \nTears flow and protests erupt only when this unspoken but clearly understood agreement is broken, often with the media conveniently at hand. The reasons driving this insatiable urge are multifarious, but poverty and lack of opportunities in the country (in this case, India) do not really rank high on the list. Social prestige and an imagined better life in the 'West' certainly do, particularly among young people from states like Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Gujarat. \nNothing about this is illegal, and not to sound cynical, these are market forces at work. However, in my view, this represents a more accurate truth. It would be great to see Fifth Estate also report from this side

Apartments are high in price bc there is not enough housing and people will just pay whatver a landlord is requiring bc they have no other choices. We also live in a capitalist dictatorship where everything is based off what ppl will pay for it. Ppl will pay for outrageous prices by getting roommates bc that's better than being homeless. So many ppl need housing that a lot of apts are on the wevsite for only 1 or 2 days before being rented. The real problem is actually wages. Housing has gone up with inflation. Property managers still have to pay for things when they are broken or even for cleaning an apt after someone moves out. All of those prices has gone up, so its not like Property managers are raising prices to screw over ppl. They do it bc the cost of everything is going up. The real problem is wages are not going up.

Most of homeless people in Canada are literally canadians who are adicts or dont even wanna work. That’s why people move to Canada. Here’s the thing, you are like a fish that is unaware that it is immersed in water. You defend the States in a way an abuse victim thinks what they are experiencing is normal. Trust me when I say people living outside the U.S. (even ex-pat Americans) look at your country with horror even while appreciating visiting your sights or admiring certain customs. You are inured by the conditions in which you live. You are defending your country without being aware that it really could be quite different and many things you see as normal are only ‘normal’ in the States but are actually quite awful. I suggest living abroad to see your country the way the rest of us do. I believe it’ll be quite an awakening.

Hmm I wonder why difficult technical jobs are relatively low paying in Canada. Oh right because you're in competition with the entire world, not just other Canadian citizens born and raised in Canada. Canada is effective subsidized the whole world and artificially lowering their own employment standards. As sad as it sounds, there will always be someone talented from a developing nation willing to do your very difficult job which you studied years to be able to do, for barely above the cost of living, because this is still better than their career and life trajectory in their own nation. How many big tech firms in the US have fired thousands of US employees in austerity moves, only then to apply for H1B visa a week later. Why educate, train, employ, and pay fairly American workers, when you can find an immigrant willing to do it for half the price. I'm pro immigration and even pro high special immigration, but the cutoff for H1B visa salaries should be 50% higher than prevailing wages in similar roles. If this position is so specialized and in demand that there simply aren't enough native populations available to do it and schools simply aren't training it, then supply and demand homie, go pay for it. Oil, gas, and petroleum engineering is a great example of this - the US barely teaches this anymore despite there being demand, so we have to hire foreign nationals. Engineering and medicine are examples of oligarchs finding ways to extract the most capital by exploiting people as much as possible. Why pay a reasonable wage for really difficult jobs, when you can find a foreigner willing to do it for barely enough to cover groceries and rent.

I'm not an immigration expert or an economist, but the problem with Canada isn't our immigration system, but WHAT the immigrants do afterwards. Sure, we take in hundreds of thousands of them...but for what jobs? Is Canada, for example, a truly dynamic tech hub? At one point yes, but only briefly and it seems like that process has stalled out considerably since the pandemic.\nDo we have the infrastructure for all of these people or are we adding hundreds of thousands of new competitors for housing? We have population growth, but the wages are so uncompetitive that it increasingly feels like Canada is inviting immigrants in to build the country...but Canadians have to create things for them to build or else, this doesn't really work, and these highly mobile, educated people will end up leaving (which is already a problem).

I'm from South Africa where we have plenty of problems like rampant crime (that will affect you if you are ignorant) and serious electricity problems, to name only two. I have family who moved to the US and friends in Canada, and I would not move to the US. My kids are safer in school in crime capital SA because of the US gun laws, we can go to concerts with no worry for the same reason, we have freedom of religion and women are not subjected to religious-based reproductive laws (I do not understand why Tyler kept skipping over those concerns every time he came across them). We moan about our medical system, but people who cannot afford medical cover, which is most people in SA, still have access to decent medical care.

Maybe it's just because of the news, but really, the school shootings are TOP of mind for me. Like, how is that even possible, to have that many crazy people who want to murder children, and not only that, but those crazy people have access to guns? \nI don't say anything to my American cousins, as I realize that they have ties, they've married Americans, they've built a life, and there's no sense me freaking out about things that they won't change, and insulting their choices.\nBut... I was SHOCKED that even after they started having children, they still didn't move back to Canada. They can do it, they have dual citizenship! \n???\nIt's like sending your kids to school on a boat in a river full of crocodiles. It's not guaranteed that nothing bad will happen to them, and it's hard to let them go, but you trust and pray and hope for the best.\nAnd then you see your cousin's kids sailing down that same river sitting on a log with their feet dangling into the water! It's horrifying, even if they assure you that usually the crocs don't come to this side of the river, and mostly they're not hungry in the morning anyway. It seems like reckless disregard. And for what? So the parents can make more money? It's not worth it in my opinion.

I’m in my early 40s and my wife is in her late 30s… the other thing is… we are of Sri Lankan decent… Tamils… BTW, I didn’t understand a thing from this interview… I’m going by what is said in the comment section.\nBut, hear me out… before you say… “Oh no… this guy has nothing in common…”\nJust so you know… I was born in Germany in 1980… my wife was born in Sri Lanka in 1985.\nWhat I noticed is all my uncles, grandparents would rave about the fact that if the war in Sri Lanka was over they would go back and live there… well… truth be told it’s been over for a while… and they go visit… but they built a new life here in Canada… and they’ve come accustomed to the luxury lifestyle here. They go back and realize that it’s not the same as it was when they were growing up… things changed… people don’t recognize them or pretend to recognize them only to take advantage of them because they know they are from Canada.\nThere is also the factor of advancement… both Sri Lanka and India is really catching up especially from the time the internet and the smartphone came along… nobody would believe… but the difference between Canada and Sri Lanka or even India in the early 90s… jeez… night and day… now it’s more equal especially in the major cities… but before… malls and escalators… people would literally ask what is that??? Elevators didn’t even have doors we had to manually close it lol…\nAnyway… that’s my point of view…\nAlso… way safer in Canada than India… how many rape cases do you hear about in Canada vs India???
