So tariffs are his plan to put back into the US coffers what will not be going in from billionaire taxes. The Red Hat Club has been stupid enough to buy the tariffs have anything to do with immigration or drugs. It's so easy for Trump to use these trigger issues to commit his crimes and then excuse it. The cult never questions if they're told it has something to do with hating immigrants. Tariffs are paid for by the US citizen. The little guys. It allows the US government to become a middleman in every transaction. Getting a cut when it has done nothing to deserve it. It is the way Russia runs things. You need to realize what Trump's real agenda is. All he really wants is money. He wants to make himself and his rich buddies richer. His plan to do that is to cut government spending radically, and impose a sales tax to fleece American consumers. Once he's got the cash flow the way he wants, he will cut corporate tax and capital gains tax so that his companies and his investments can make a lot more money and so can his rich buddies, while still being able to pay off his lackeys in the senate and congress. That's it. It is that simple. Everything else is a distraction to make the media forget his real plan.

The question that needs to be asked is what’s Trump’s moneymaking angle on imposing tariffs. Trump only does stuff where he personally can make money. Somebody or some group or entity is paying him somehow to impose tariffs on America’s main trading partner and ally. That’s the only way this makes any sense.

I voted for Trump, but it's hard not to agree with Trudeau on this even though I find this guy to be extremely unpleasant. There's no reason to start trade wars all over the world and in particular with our neighbors. It's one thing to threaten tariffs and a very different thing to actually apply them. If you do it has to be accompanied by a lot of diplomacy so that the other country is not overreacting, but Trump has been super combative prompting our neighbors to respond in kind to save face. While past deals may not have been great for US, this is not the way to handle our differences. Billionaires like Trump and his friends will be fine, but the majority of ordinary folks in the US and Canada will suffer. Very dumb, indeed.

Excellent speech! I believe that all US Tarif affected countries and regions should seek a closer economic cooperation. The world is much bigger than the US and I'm confident that there are other opportunities to be found. By the way, I watched an interview with Chrystia Freeland this morning. She had an interesting suggestion: put 100% Tarifs on Tesla cars. Excellent suggestion that caries a strong message the US government!

It is said that if America imposes a tarrif on Canada, then Americans will pay more for Canadian goods. Possibly electricity too. We Canadians are suckers if we're giving billions more to Ukraine. Trudeau needs to go now. As for the tariff, I think we need to strike back hard, and continue the boycott of US goods.
