I am a South Asian, living in Toronto for past 20 years. I work in IT industry and I have never felt racism at my work place. All my colleagues and superior were very nice to me and I always felt that Canada is a better place than country of my birth. But I am not black, so I have not had same experience. I think best thing for all minorities is to be a model citizen and be a winner in life. Everybody likes winner.

What I have noticed all my life living in Canada is Caucasians don't like hearing the truth about anything where they are feel they are being made to look like the villain, but the objective is not to make anyone feel like they're on trial but to start acknowledging that this is going on regardless of if you've ever experienced/seen it or not. The reason Caucasians don't see it is because of what they call White Privilege. Caucasians will never have to deal with the subtleties of racism that minorities face everyday because they will never be treated that way even in other countries they visit or live. Many Caucasians aren't aware that stereotyping is racism as you will notice them say the weirdest things and make really weird assumptions like calling a Korean woman Chinese or mistaking a Hindu or Sikh for someone Islamic, which you should never do. Cultural insensitivity happens here because many Caucasians don't care much to learn about another culture and because of this there's it's creating even more issues. The race problem is Canada is huge and people are trying to say that it isn't but in the coming years more and more evidence is going to come out to the point where it will be irrefutable and there will either be a reform or civil war.

Originally this comment was like the size of a book talking about just some of the specific examples of Police and civilian racism I witnessed with my own Caucasian eyes in this country. I am extremely patriotic and I love being Canadian but I have been saying for years that we have problems when it comes to racism but no one here wants to even acknowledge it. Of course we're not as bad as our neighbors but at least they talk about it and seem to want to come to terms with their bigotry and institutionalized racism in society. As long as we keep pretending we don't TO THIS DAY have an ongoing history with systemic racism in politics, policing and even in the workplace than we will never in real life be the actual Canada we try to tell the world and ourselves we really are and that makes me deeply sad and ashamed.

Wow I never knew of Canada's prejudices. I encounter a lot of Toronto ppl in NYC that I'm not keen on but their personalities just remind me of folks you encounter on the upper Eastside. I have southern roots (SC and MS) and have grown up in Missouri most my life so I know racism. I would hope it couldn't be worse than that in Canada, as I still do want to visit one day soon.

I totally agree with you Lloyd Douglas and his column black in Canada. I find it to be swept under the carpet as far as racism is concerned, they smile in front of you but behind you they Stab you in the back .well the Americans is right up front I can work with you but I won’t socialize with you, at least you’re truthful.\n\n I find Canadians to be very two face , Hidden they true feeling and pretend a lot . I have experienced the first time in my life racism was within Canada and it brought me to tears. I live in America for so many years no one had ever call me the N word , I never felt so humiliated and lower my self-esteem. I have never felt more racially profiled in any other country than in Canada. It was the most infuriating experience of my life. I never want to go back even though I know that those actions are not reflective of the whole country.. just put a bad taste in my mouth..

i worked in retail for 6 years and majority of shoplifters were white! This is Lansing, Michigan! \nAlso, idk if this makes me a bad employee, but i NEVER followed anyone around. Also im not going to risk my safety or life by confronting a shoplifter for minimum wage! No thank you!

As an asian woman living in Europe for 14 years I faced a decent number of racism, which was a shocker to me coming from the country where we accept any race and I was never treated any different. At my university the very first time I faced racism was from my PROFESSOR! The only thing I felt was sorry for him and his shallow life. Racism prevents you from learning so much more in this world, you automatically limit yourself with your assumptions. So, to all the racists, I feel sorry for you and your sad life of hater and anger.

I’ve been accused of racially profiling someone. Because my coworker asked them if then needed assistance & then I did without realizing she already had. She thought we were the same person. I guess because we are both white with brown hair? Felt awful afterward. Not sure why people would even think to spy on people of colour whilst shopping. Usually (in my experience) the people who steal seem sketchy - they won’t make eye contact, are standoffish etc. Those are the people to keep an eye on. You’re just wasting your time otherwise. I get followed quite frequently. It’s pretty funny because I’ve never stolen anything from a store in my life

these tests are biased, assuming that only white people are racists. try to carry out the same tests with non-white people. i worked in pakistan for a while, i've never seen anyone so anti-black in my life. do your homework.

The Sikh's are entirely opposite of the Muslim population. Although many Muslims do work and contribute, it is still a high percentage that depends on welfare benefits. The Sikh's have a great work ethic and they will help you along in setting a great example of a good worker, in case you are lacking in that. Most Sikh's are very high earners, millionaires even, owing to HARD WORK. In my entire life, I never met a SINGLE lazy Sikh. They are very enterprising people.

To Mr. Singh, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for your beliefs and I cannot begin to thank you and the rest of the Sikh....I am just speechless. to the people get to know the Sikhs I swear by that Almighty whose in control of my life YOU WILL NEVER MEET ANOTHER GROUP OF PEOPLE LIKE THE SIKHS.... Moving to Vancouver was a great experience tbh, I'm of nigerian heritage but was born in Finchley, North London...\nCanadians are friendly and extremely welcoming ( Coming from the UK i found this so off-putting ) lol. Ironically its non-white Canadians i had funny experiences with.... from dating to renting its weird\n\n\nAsians under 27 always asking some crazy questions ( Are you an NBA player ) lol it's cute at first but after a while when little koreans walk up to me talking about ( You look like will smith ) it makes you think... To be fair these are not inherent negatives, But asian canadians alone did treat me weird i found, Indian girls i met all wanted to be with me but where also very ashamed to say so or let their family know, but thats a cultural thing so i understood.\n\n\n Of all the demographics White canadian and native men where the most welcoming and open to me, in my experience.. White women of-course where cool too but that does not really count, especially as a good looking black guy with an accent LOOL you know how that goes!! My Tinder and Bumble were obscene LMAO\n\nRenting from asians while black and Male!? is almost impossible!!! Except they think you have rich parents!! Its impossible in Van unless you are an Arab exchange student lol \nArab and Persian students studying english have no issues renting in Vancouver, for some reason!!\n\nI lived out the St. Regis downtown for a month, Looking for places to rent, i had seen so many places online and filled out applications but never got call backs, asides from 2 group showings i went to, i could not even set up a viewing with the apartment building i wanted... \n\nTill i met an african girl in school, and she told me something i found completely crazy.\nShe told me to make a new e-mail addy and to use my English name when i e-mail, then set up a viewing but to show up with a white friend preferably a girl and that if the owner is asian, i should look around, and offer to pay 6months upfront before they get a chance to ask what i did for work or whether i was a student or not LOL. Needless to say, i did what she said and It worked the asian lady asked me to come get the keys later that day. Its just life, as a property owner they really just wanna size you up, not fair and kind of pathetic but its not inherently evil...

Im white and Never in my life was I followed... Funny thing is that I could be robbing these places left and right but just cause im white no one bats a eye... But if i was acting suspicious then someone would probably follow me....

Ok I hate racial issues like seriously we are all the same people who cares what the skin shows I was just at Walmart and I was followed all around and got stopped because I let my son play with a toy I was going to purchase and they told me he couldn’t so I said fine what ever put it in the cart. Cue a 14 month old screaming fit the whole time same guy followed me all the way to a line I paid got stopped at door by same guy asking for my receipt and he went through every damn bag with my 14 month old still screaming i am a white woman dealing with an area that has people following Mother’s alone with their young children and attempt to kidnap them never been more terrified in my life

To hell with them this is MY country with idea's and values I have supported all my life I will never bow to a barbaric faith that offers death or slavery to any non believers it is pure poison and has no place in modern society and when they try to take over and enforce sharia law I will be in the front line fighting them all the way..

And here I am watching this after I arrived home in the Philippines after a 2 years work permit and contract in Edmonton Alberta when my work permit renewal was rejected by immigration Canada and there is this fraud immigration thing. Well atleast I did my luck in an honest way rather than doing it the wrong way. I'd rather live a hard life here in the Philippines than living the Canadian dream illegally. I want to thank the canadians for being good to during my 2 years stay in Canada. I will never forget that exprerience and specially my all time favorite triple triple dark roast from Tim Hotons. lol..?

This is not true. And now that the Government of Canada has hid it, I can no longer prove it. However, not only did my MP admit that they get close to 2500 dollars per month for the first year and sometimes longer. They are automatically authorized for a loan. And hey, 50,000 for a family is enough for a downpayment, while we can sit here working all our lives and never be able to buy a house. But they are automatically authorized. So the question is, why is it profittable to bring in refugees? Maybe if the government gave me 50,000 or 2500 per month, and or they gave me easier loans....I would have already been profiting Canada in many ways. Other than trying to work hard and when I can't get a job, because I am not part of a minority group, collecting ei or assistance and never getting anywhere in my life.

I dont mind having punjabi, Hindus and Sikhs living in brampton they're very nice people and their food is delicious, but I will say this: in all of my life living in brampton i never experienced so many issues with driving in brampton until indian immagrants migrated to this city , and because of all the car accidents and dangerous road rage, car insurance sky rocketed and now someone like me who has never been in a car collision has to pay hundreds of dollars because of their negligent driving habbits...... my point is please be safe, focus and dont be distracted when driving. I can't afford a hotel room if I want to go for a short trip just for a change to get away for a rest from my job and boring everyday life. Trudeau is giving a hotel room for people who never worked a day in Canada. You watch me figure how I'm gonna figure out to cheat every tax dollar I can. I hope everyone should do the same.

I've never really get much racism in my everyday life but i was treated differently because of my color,but normally i don't get that kind of stuff?

I am Asian, live in the US and this is the reason why I hate shopping. Workers are always stalking you until you are out the door. There are always more than 1 employees asking the same questions to see if I needed help all the time. It is so freaking annoying. I never stole anything in my whole life. But it is okay, it just means they are not getting my business anymore and I am saving more money. ?

I'm 55 yrs old Puerto Rican who's lived in NYC USA my entire life, I don't nor I have ever dressed like a gangsta, never acted like one and always dressed casually decent, but every freakin time I wallk into any store I am immediately tagged as a potential shoppe lifter and its always by my own kind or african american, what I do to get even is I pull out a bunch of cash money and pause for a few seconds in front of the cash registers and count the money and walk out the door without purchasing anything

I'm also Canadian and moved to the USA to marry my (now) husband, and I definitely notice some major differences. I think much of this really depends on where you're living in the US. I spent most of my life in Ottawa, and now live in South Central Pennsylvania. I'm surrounded by hillbillies, haha. In some ways healthcare is better in the US - I have waited much less time for health care, and also if you're paying in cash for the doctor many places offer a discount here. And I hear you on Amazon Prime! I use it all the time here! Not to mention so many cool vegan foods I could never get in Canada are easily available here.

As a multi generational Canadian, I don't really care whether they cover their face or not. That's their choice. During my life I've seen all these different forms of conservative dress from catholic nuns, to Hutterites to Mennonites and these people are just part of the mix. What this is designed to do is to create a barrier between themselves and the larger society which is fine. I would never interact with one of these woman ever because the thin flimsy barrier makes it clear that she is not interested in talking to anyone for any reason and again this is fine. If she was with a man I would talk only with the man and completely ignore her and if she was with a male child I would talk to the male child, not to her. I don't normally chat with women who are strangers other than now and then in a supermarket line or whatever. This face thingy frees me from the need of chitchat small talk and I'm good with that. In any case we would have absolutely nothing in common.

I used to be a very liberal person for most of my life and tolerant of other cultures and religious faith, like many others I may add.\n However my tolerance is wearing somewhat thin, like many others I may add again, after hearing the same old opinions coming from Muslims repatriated in western societies. \n They come into our cultures on mass and never assimilate into ours, but create their own little pockets of cultural being within our national borders.\n We hear time and again how the indigenous populist must be accepting of them, even though very few are accepting of our culture, using an analogy it's akin to inviting a stranger into your home and give them a safe place to live, food, money and all items that go along with it, and the next thing their sat on your favourite chair with your remote in their hand, even going to bed with your wife!\n We need to wear our head covering it's our right they chant, OK then, afford the same favours to us in your country, let my partner wear her bikini when she's walking down the road, let us drink alcohol, build Christian churches, you get where I'm going with this.\n If it's so great there why do you choose to live here? All the customs you seek are there if you feel that uncomfortable here? \nGiving Sewden as an example, there are now 180 Muslim 'ghettos' not the same you get in the US as the accommodation and welfare is quite generous there, a lot of them are 'No-go' areas even for the police, they mostly hate the Swedish people, a criminal element there will only rob off the swedes, and rape has gone up tenfold committed mostly by the Muslims, and it's only going to get worse as they are accepting another forty thousand of them, even though they have a crisis of a shortage of housing. \n If you ever needed an example of when your political parties have totally lost the plot, and are insanely progressive and what your country could become, then use Sweden as a barometer as to what your country could also decay into.\n The Muslims hate use, hate our freedoms, and just think of us as 'infidels' , multiculturalism has proved on this scale that it does not work, unless immigrants come with the mindset that they assimilate into the culture they are heading for, not the other way around.

My experience in Canada has been largely positive, with only minimal racial difficulties.  As a teenager, I do recall some kids making blatantly racist comments, when I was the only minority in the room; but they were silly girls, popular and full of themselves, and most of the students who heard did not laugh with them. We all knew it was wrong.  Another time I was told, by an agent, that a potential employer claimed she would not hire me because of my race.  I did not hear these words firsthand, though, so it was impossible for me to verify the truth. In the end, I let the matter alone. Other people,  I realize, have endured severe injustices; such have not been my experience, but this does not subtract from their reality.  Indeed, racism does exist, and shall remain as long as there are imbeciles wallowing in the mire of ignorance, people who cling to an absurd sense of superiority for lack of something more meaningful to hold.  As well--and it must be said!--quite likely, we all have, at some point, entertained discriminatory thoughts. 'Tis not a 'black and white' problem but a human one, and we must be mindful of it beginning with ourselves.  Canada, then, with its many inhabitants and complex history, will never be the exception. We can't expect perfection among people, here or anywhere else in the world.  Even so,  I believe there are enough fellow Canadians who strive to treat people as individuals and are happy to make friends across cultures.  My life has been and continues to be a testament to that!  Whatever our troubles, we still retain a proud heritage of diversity and progressive ethnic harmony.  We do try, and for this reason I love my country.  I am deeply patriotic and immensely proud to be part of it!
