American here. My take? This is not about protectionism this is about isolationism. \nWhy would Trump want this? This is about becoming the first American dictator of the Western Hemisphere. \nHyperbolic? Nope. Trump controls the Senate, House, Doge, Project 2025 is in the White House, all the branches of the Defense Department, the Attorney General and his offices, six of the nine seats on the Supreme Court, and assigned over 250 Federal judgeships to the Federal courts which are a lifetime appointment. The ONLY thing that is standing in the way of Trump are the Federel judges that actually understand the constitution and do not want to destroy this nation. The fly in the ointment? Courts can issue an order based on the constitution or our laws, but does not have any way to enforce them if Trump should just disregard their order. That is how close we are to a dictatorship.\nWake Up America.?\n P.S. Sorry Canada! Coalesce, find new trade partners, and leave the United States behind. We are no longer worthy of your friendship.

TRUTH!! The truth hurts Trump’s plan of chaos!! Thank you Mr. Trudeau; Republicans need to hear the TRUTH and end the misinformation! There is no end to the illogical actions that Trump is making but tariffs have been proven to result in a recession. Cutting thousands of jobs of people making $18/hr is insane!! Women and children will die as a result of this action! \nAgain, illogical anctions along with Trump aligning himself with Putin and every other dictator. He can move to Russia if he wants to live his life under Putin. He treats everyone the same; expendable!

Trump is trying to end war that’s why he wants to make peace with Russia! And there are a LOT of rude Canadians just as Americans! The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. It us telling everyone else that we can no longer be relied upon because we are weak. \n\nI didnt' even vote Trump the first two times he ran. But things have now gotten so bad that I was forced into voting for him this time. Why? Because he's a bull in a china shop. I expect him to tear every damn thing apart he can within our government. I want everything destroyed so it can be rebuilt by people who aren't complacent.

The stupidity of trump is incompetent for him to take sides with Russia over our allies will weaken our country and maybe allow our real enemies to invade our country because of his actions getting rid of people who have experience and knowledge in the job they been doing for years all this action just to be able to get close with Putin to be a dictator also in a country that has been free for over 250 years I want to see if people that support him and the republican will agree with him over the wishes of the American people.

Maybe building a Boarder Wall on America's Northern Boarder would be a good idea. Canada is responsible to guard our boarders and allow in only those who we feel qualify. Canada does not close it's boarders to those who wish to leave, nor does the United States close it's boarders to those who wish to leave. The United States is free to put up a wall and a boarder crossing anywhere you wish, stop whoever you want to stop from entering your country. I can tell you that The fastest Boarder Wall that I have ever seen go up is the one that Trump just raised between the United States and Canada, the Tariff Wall. What you have done is put signs on our shelves, buy Canadian. You have taken American Product from the top shelf, to the verry bottom shelf, behind the Made in China. You have closed the Travel Agencies to United States travel, nobody wants to go to your country, and I heard that there is going to be a 250% Tariff on hotel accommodations for Americans visiting Canada. It is not only about the Tariffs on Canada, who Used to be your friends, it is about your new friend Russia, who support Terrorist organizations all over the world, including the ones in Gaza who held Americans Hostage, who supports IRAN who supports Russia in murdering and raping women, kidnapping children in Ukraine, torturing and murdering citizens with their hands tied behind their backs. If this is what America supports, if this is what America does to its Ally's, I hope the taps for the oil and the switch for the electricity are turned off, and we never have to worry about each other ever again.\n\nCanada is a country with an Area roughly the size of the United States, with a population 340 Million is 8 1/2 times larger than Canada at $40 Million, with a GDP 9 1/2 times larger than Canada. I am an American and love my country and its people. But TRUMP and Musk and Vance are villains ?! They must be defeated. And they will be stopped. Canada can put all the tariffs it wants on America if Trump closes the Border it'll destroy Canada's economy

I am a Canadian in Alberta and the reality is that the Liberals have weakened the Canadian economy and our standing in the world. Their decision to cripple our oil and gas industry and our lack of ability export our products elsewhere in the world is an issue created by the policies of the Liberals. To impose a carbon tax and further weaker the average Canadian is terrible. There are some policies I don't like out of the U.S. but the reality is that it is never an idea to pick a fight with the toughest kid on the block knowing you will lose. Trump doesn't even want the tariffs he wants Canada to pull it's weight in defense spending and cooperation. Trudeau backstabbed Trump in the past and that won't be forgotten. We need a new government with a leader that understands more than being a drama teacher and snowboarder. Unfortunately, most of the significant issues Canada faces is the result of self inflicted wounds resulting from incompetent leadership. We didn't have anywhere close this level of issues with the Harper government. We are lucky to have the U.S. as a neighbor so let's do what is good for both nations but there is no way the woke Liberal's can do it.

Canada and the US used to share a warm relationship. Living close to Canada, our girls hockey teams frequently play the Canadian girls. Over the past 5+ years, the behavior of the Canadian girls changed from competitive, but decent, to vicious, laced with insults and injury. We no longer want to play them because you can predict a concussion suffered every fifth game or so. The app was very bad for our country. No tests. People could come with ‘their kid’ and ‘bags of groceries’ and walk straight in. Furthermore, the security was told to not do their job. I voted for Harris and despise Trump, however, I'm hoping Repubs do exactly what they've been wanting to do for YEARS, which is to finish their fence/wall along the ENTIRE border, deport ALL illegal/undocumented migrants, many of them Trump supporters, and shut about the stupid border already!! Americans are exhausted with the topic!!! I live in Arizona, I know of some illegal migrants close to me, they support Trump, and I'll be calling ICE on them on Jan 21st and will demand they get deported, and will work to find ALL migrants who supported Trump, and get them out of here!! Trump will crash the economy again, of course, so Dems will have to come in and clean it up again, as they always do after Republicans.

This is why Trump in the US is so popular. Trump policies: #1 he will close the southern border , 15-30 k immigrants a day everyday are allowed to into the US. Some of these immigrants are coming to do harm to the US . They are usually from Muslim countries and African countries. Most coming from South/central America are coming to work in the US , ecape violence/gangs and are also Christians (same religion ). #2 trump stated he will take away birthright citizenship. That is, if both parents are born/citizens from, for example, Syria, then their children born in US will not be granted US citizenship. The children will granted citizenship of their parents. As I watched alot of EU countries Finland, Poland, Lativia closed their borders to immigrants. The US wants to do the same . We gets labeled racists for wanting this same policy. Those EU countries got applauded ??for closing their borders for safety concerned for their citizens. If Canadian or American were to move to either country, we respect them. Americans respect Canadian laws, culture ect . Americans also wouldn't move to Canada or the UK to commit crimes or overthrow the government. We Americans, Canadians and Britts respect eachother, respect culture and would move there to be productive part of our new host country ??❤ ?? ❤ ??

Just imagine all the foreigners including my family that came here legally and did everything to have the American dream. They paid so much money to become a citizen for people to storm in and get everything for free smh…the US owe every foreign person that spent thousands of dollars to stay legally and entered with a legal visa..smh but the migrants get food stamps, shelter, schools, etc while we have thousands of people homeless or losing their homes..can’t get gov assistance because they work and “Make too much” smh this country is a mess and I see now why Trump wanted borders to be closed
